Need some help

Anybody running a v-6 on their boats? I have a small 4 cyl aircraft engine that just blew up and need a new motor fast. I need to keep it small because of the boat size but a v-6 I think will do the trick. I just need to find out what size prop I need to go with on a 3.8 or 4.3 gm. And possibly where I can get a prop adapter for that engine. I have come to the conclusion that aircraft engines hate me. I would like to go automotive this go around. And does anybody know what the weight of one of these motors is fully assembled? Thanks again for any help.

Bandkiller you might try an inline 6 if youre going straight drive thay make more torque than v-6s and i think there are a couple of guys on here that run them if you want to go with a chevy 4.3 than waterthunder is youre guy he's one of the most knowledgeable airboat/chevy engine guys on the planet just my opinion anyway. Are you sure aircraft engines hate you or are you just running the wrong set-up many of them live a long and happy life with the rite set-up

Yeah they hate me. I have spent 9 months tinkering with my a-65 continental and have got around 20 hours on it and it left me stranded today. It seized up. Yes it had oil and good oil pressure and then it just shut right down and was froze up tight.

Band what kind of boat are you trying to push with that 65 and what kind of engine temps are you running sounds like heat may be youre killer if youre pushing more than a 10 footer. i've been collecting 4.3 chevy's for awhile now and i have 4 of them all late model vortec's i'm going to start experimenting with them this winter but they will be run with a gear box so i dont know if my info will help you but if so i will gladly pass it along.

Yeah the engine was built in 42. And yes I would like the info on those engines when possible. I really need to get some thing on this boat fast. I bought it for duck hunting and the hunt just opened. I worked opening day and took it out today and it DIED. What a way to start the year off. First day in the marsh and I broke.

I am running a 250ci chevy inline six on a 11ft aluminum palm beach style deckover. I have run several kinds of props on this thing the last 17 years I've had it. The best setup so far is the 60" 6 blade warp drive on it right now, otherwide the best wood prop was a 66x34 narrow sensenich spinning just over 2800. I hace a buddy that used to run a 2.8 chevy v6 on a 11 1/2 aluminum boat set up real light with a 61" 4 blade warp. It wasn't a dry runner but did ok. I have also seen a 231 buick setup years back but I don't know how it ran. The inline 6 I am running is definatly the most reliable engine I have ever seen out there, has never left me stranded yet, parts are cheap and it burns about 3 1/2 to 4 gph running around.

band you can get a prop adapter for a late model small block chevy from classic airboats that will bolt up and also headers from them for the 4.3 i've bought them for as little as $300.00 complete from the junk yard out of wrecked trucks but i dont know what prop you would need as far as weight i'm guessing around 450 lbs. complete but probably less with header and light weight starter and some aluminum parts

I have possibly found a c-125 but it needs a carb. I was told that you can use an automotive carb if you put an elbow on it but it doesn't seem like it would work to me, anybody know about this. I also found an ivo prop, anybody running these or are they not that good? It's a 3 blade adjustable carbon. Any more info would be great. Any body know or have a carb for that c-125?

band i'll check to see if i have a carb to fit that engine tommorow it might need rebuilt if so can you do this or do i need to set it up for you ? i'll check and PM you monday night

Is it an aircraft carb? And yes I can do it. Let me know how much and when you can get it sent to me. Thanks again for all the help.

yes it will be an aircraft carb if i have the right one i'll let you know if i have and how much if its a rebuilder it will be pretty cheap and i can ship it to you on tues if you want it

Larry, I've gotta tell you .... I love that boat.

I've always been a big fan of GM straight sixes. When Thunder posted a couple weeks back that a Rotator box would bolt right up to one, my old brain has been building a boat with one of them ever since 8) .

I was building allot of those 4.3 V6's up until I started building LS1's. I was getting up to 400HP out of the 4.3 it's easy to get 350HP out of one with a gearbox I guess the first question is do you want to stay DD. Also remember the 4.3 and straight six still weigh more then a LS1 with less power. The old inline V6's are not a very efficient motor they run OK but are not a power house. If you are starting from scratch I would say DD LS1 if you want to go the cheapest go with a 4.3 V6 Vortec they are a great little motor with a stock roller cam and lifters and the cylinder heads are superior to anything GM ever did up until 1994 or so. Believe it or not the 4.3 does weigh a tad more then the V8 LS1.

I have some more questions, will the carb on an a-65 fit a c-125? I was told it would work if I changed out the jet to a bigger one. And I am trying to get this boat back up and running fast and was wondering if I would have enough thrust with a 60x34 on the c-125? The prop manufactures call for a 66x38. I don't need to run the hill I just need to get back up and running. Any more help would be great.
