hey guys i am new to the airboating world and have a few ?
i just bought a 12ft cumbee hull w/trailer and riggin,i am planning on a 350 dd, i will be doing .030 over on the motor light weight pistons, arp rod bolts on stock rods, with a summit cam part# sum-1100,aluminum dual plane intake ,and a carter 650 carb.
nothing set in stone still planning my attack.

my questions are does this sound like a good set up?
the boat will mainly be used for hunting but the occasional riding will happen would like to run some dry ground does not have to be alot.
what size prop should i go with.

thanks for any advice would be great

Welcome Darrell,
where you from? Where will you be riding? Some places that set up would work fine some places it would be scary.

Give a little more info and these guys will get you all lined out.

Welcome Darrel - My wife and I run a 350dd and here is what makes ours a dogger of a boat - stock motor, heavy boat. 72lxl32 paddle prop. It get's stuck a lot, but we love it still for our first boat. It gets us out there so long as there is water. Now that we've learned a couple years on this boat, we're soon to be ready to upgrade some.

But then look at Robby Bondurant - he took a 350dd jazzed up the motor and put a 72lxl36 paddle prop and his boat kicks butt. SOunds good on the cam, you may want a little less carb - in my opinion.

I'm not sure if he still has his old 72lxl34 prop for sale, but ran some dry with that prop just fine.

come on out to the lake cleanup Saturday morning. Most of us will be there.

I'm guessing you are in the Winter Haven area.

hey guys i am from clermont fl. i have been to lake cypress and lake kissimmee a few times hunting with some friends in their boats.
and now i got the bug so i had to go buy a boat.

i would love to come out and meet some of you guys and help clean up but i have to go out of town for easter weekend.

thanks for the advice moodfood you thinking a 600 might be a little better(guessing for throttle response)

i have built a few motors mainly for hotrods pretty sure an airboat motor is quite a bit different

I have a 12'8" Gilileo witha dd 350 also. The cam in my motor is a stock 82' vette cam which sucks for airboats so I ordered that same cam your talking about, it should be here tommorow but it'll be a week or two before I install it. Robby put the same cam in his 350 and I talked to him about it and he said it made a HUGE difference, he was spinning a 72x30 wide blade before he rebuilt his motor, then he rebuilt it and installed the cam and he said he was able to turn the prop way too fast. He moved up to a 72x36 wide blade and said he runs dry with 3 people. I am under-propped right now with a 70x34 narrow blade but I look to upgrade props in the near future. Good Luck.

10-4 Darrell. The cam and lifters arrived yesterday, I am not 100% sure when I'll get to install it, but I'll definately give an update. After talking to Robby about his I expect to be happy with it, at least for my application. It may not be the best cam in the world for a DD SBC but it damn sure can't be the worst. you could go with a custom made cam but I believe it costs a good bit more. I got the cam and lifter combo and a cam swap gasket set and shipping for like 94 dollars and some change.

darrell,I`d stick with the 650 for the carb, your going bigger on your cam than mood and a you need more breathing for it. you should do ok for a dd350. reddwarf has,or had i should say,dd350 and he ran 7 miles dry through gardeners marsh!I have a 14 foot combee there great handling boats. My first one was pretty light, had a dd455 and could run dry with it.my current combee has walkboars and i heavyer but i still love these hulls.Good luck.

Point well taken about the carb Joe. You are 100% right.

What do you mean Red USED TO HAVE a dd???? That 7 mile ride was only a month or two ago at the freedom ride... what happened since then!!????

matt.

He had a picture on here somewhere in a post of him sitting in his living room next to a gearbox and a three blade that looked like a sensenich super wide

IMO, you want the most cubes you can get for a DD and the smallest intake and cab available. You need to look at peak operating rpm's and wants of the combination. a 500 cfm claimer class carb on the right intake will do far better to me for carb signal and response down low and that's where you run DD to me.
