Need the specs to build a sb350

I have everything I need but the motor. Can anyone give me some advise on what I want in this sb350. A freebee was given to me! 16' x7' Alumitec, complete with cage, 2:1 franklin belt drive, prop, seats, guages, alt., 600 carb., trailer and the works. The boat just needs poly, and the motor!
Water got in the motor, and it was disassembled and stored dry. Any thoughts? thks dc

welcome dc,

Send a message or e-mail to waterthunder on this board. He's the small block guy.

Jim

thanks for the welcome! The forum has been a great help to me. I've got the fever bad. This boat was my brothers, so I have been it manytimes. He moved on and can't rember much about building the motor. But in it's time it was SWEET!

I figured this would be right up Waterthunders ally!

Vortec or the small Edelbrock E-Tec heads would be a great move for power, along with matching aluminum intake and a Comp Xtreme Energy 4x4 camshaft. Use a small carb and quality long tube headers along with a bent solid pipe exhaust system (preferably single or a dual with crossover pipe) with quality performance mufflers. Throw on an aluminum water pump and you've got a light-weight reliable engine for not too much money

The boat had supertrapp exhauset on it... however the inserts rusted out, any other suggestion on some other mufflers? thks for the input! dc

Is the motor a Vortec or not. This will play a major roll in what’s possible for camshaft application and it's cost. What are your main concerns? fair fuel economy and gangster horsepower or great fuel economy and good horsepower? If you want to freshen her up I would recommend turning it into a 383 that is the best all around combination for a small block SBC in an airboat .

no it's not a Vortex, however it did have a contender intake from Elderbrock, with a holly 600. Cast heads at the time, right now aluminum heads is out of my price range but that is the goal. I do have the long stainless headers, should I put in cross overs?

I keep forgetting to get the propsize, I am currious about what rpm I am looking for since I already have a prop,, I will get back with you on that.

Am i looking at attempting to run dry, and in it's day it did. not that worried about fuel consumption. However, I really don't have to worry about racing anyone either. I have only heard of one other airboat in the Cumberland County area up hear..

thanks for the help! dc
