Needed: 2.68:1 gear or 2.3:1 belt reduction

Hello,

I finally decided to get a motor, so I need to buy a reduction unit that will bring out the best in the motor.

I am looking for a slightly used 2.68 gear reduction unit or a 2.3 belt reduction unit. I would consider a 2.0:1 belt reduction if it is cheap enough because I will need to change to 2.3:1.

I will also be looking for a super wide or wide prop depending on which reduction unit I get.

I am currently running a CH-2 2.0:1 but you can not convert those.

I don't want to alter the height of my prop/engine stand, because my motor is mounted high already. So maybe someone can tell me if you lower or raise your stand for a gear reduction?

Anyway thanks for looking

If it's just an inch or two, it seems raising the cage would require much fewer modifications than lowering the engine stand.

That is if you can afford to bump the center-of-gravity up just a bit.

Your prop will be a lot lower in the boat with a gear drive. I think it's about 8"
That's if you have a belt drive on it now.
If you have direct drive now, it will raise the prop 2 or 3 inches.

i guess I will need to acquire a belt drive, because I would need to raise my motor about 8" and my center of gravity would go to heck because I have a covered back deck with the motor mounted on top.

If anyone has a good CH-3 please let me know.

Thanks,

Turning your prop the opposite direction of the motor may counter act some of the torque roll with the motor up high. The gear box also weighs half as much as the bb and doesn't break belts. unless you run the lightning bb it is a little lighter. just saying factor every thing in and then consider how much more prop you can swing with the 268 and up ratio's! If you get a gear box try to get a softdrive. Quiet and no wine .

Hello,

I am still looking for a 2.3 to 1 belt reduction and a three blade prop. I would also consider a three blade hub.

Thanks

talk to bob hoover at waterwalker about the blue lightning belt drive 57 lbs and tough as a anvil , i absolutly love mine !!
