Too many events! This is the same day as the FAA meeting in Brevard.

This Saturday, starting 8:30 am April 8, Flaming Arrow Boy Scout Camp, Lake Wales (You pass this camp going to Camp Mack)

Trailblazer Event: US Sportsmen's Alliance http://www.wlfa.org/interactive/features/Read.cfm?ID=1744 http://www.ussportsmen.org/ & the Boy Scouts presents this day of outdoor recreation for scouts & their families. It's a hands on for outdoor rec, featuring, shooting, trapping, hunting, archery, fishing, canoeing and many others. Expected attendance is 500+. This is a great time to educate folks on what we do.

What we need: 6-8 (or more) experienced woodsmen/sportsmen to bring a few airboats (2-3 for viewing, no rides) mounts, equipment, pictures. The format is you have a group of kids/masters/parents for 45 minutes at a time to educate on whatever topics.

We did this event in Paisley a few weeks back. Myself WCAC-FAA, Jim Brown LCAA-FAA, Bob Hoover, CCAA-FAA, Larry Poledo-KRVSA, lauren Brown LCAC-FAA, Creeker, Ken Johnson, CCAA-FAA, Bob & Dave Polumbo, SCAC-FAA. The kids really liked the boats!!!

I spoke for 10-20 minutes per group.

Topics
1) Airboat Clubs & Conservation, Community Service, Sovereign Land
issues (Give a plug for our good community efforts) Quiet Airboats
2) What airboats are, can do, made for ect
3) Type of recreating we do: Hunting such as hog, turkey, deer, frog,
gator, Joy riding, racing and just plain riding
4) Spoke in detail on hog hunting (brought Tex my Cataholla & had cut
armor on him), frogging & gator hunting.
5) Broke from group, speaking for 1 on 1, hands on gator harpoons,
trophy mounts, frog gigs, head lights. ect

The kids, parents & scoutmasters enjoyed the pictures, gator heads, deer mounts, harpoons, gigs, boats and stories. We need volunteers to do this. WE need one or two to do the group presentation and the remainder for support for 1 on 1 time. If you can talk, this is a good event & everyone is excited to see the boats & hear the stories. Lunch is provided at the camp mess.

PLEASE CALL ME!!!! 813-968-6154 for details!!

The Boy Scouts and US Sportsmen Alliance are both great groups we need to be associated with. This is a rewarding event and great PR!! There are two more Trailblazer events this month (Tallahassee & Jacksonville) that I'll be doing.

WOW . . . what a great event !
This is the sort of thing that we need to be involved in to put our best foot forward and promote our good image. Our future is in the hands of our youth. I sincerely hope that we do not let this opportunity pass us by.
The Flaming Arrow Boy Scout Camp is just down the road from Camp Mack and Lake Kissimmee. I am sure that some folks can kill two birds with one stone . . . give a nice demonstration for the Scouts and then head to the lake for a nice ride. It sounds like a plan to me.

The Trailblazers Scouting event in Paisley, FL was awesome! Just to see the faces of the kids as they listened to tales of the Florida wilderness, sat on the airboats and pretended they were driving, touching the gator head-- was so enriching! If we don't teach our youngsters about our sporting heritage--I shudder to think of who will. This is a "willing and wanting " to learn group of youngsters. Let's make a good, lasting impression early on--it will last a lifetime.

I encourage anyone who can spend some time with our youth to do so. They are thrilled to see deer antlers, gator heads, fish--whatever you can contribute of your knowledge toward teaching about our sporting heritage and our passion (our airboats)!

Ok,
Tonight, we had two worthy men of the Peace River Valley Airboat Club in Arcadia (Allen & Albert) step forward and commit to the event with two airboats.
Anyone else ready to step up with these fine folks?

gatorstick, if I did not live in Nebraska I would be there in a moment. Those are the people that we need to be in front of get them excited about what we are and who we help and what our mission is as a Airboater.

Tim,
I tried to call the Nebraska club & got no answer. There are two events out your way, Omaha/Fremont on August 12 and a girl scout event in Oklahoma on APRIL 29.
If you can get a club interested, call Derek Shively at US Sportsmens Alliance at 614-888-4868. or call me at 813-968-6154.
These are great events. I'll be at two more, April 22&29 in Jacksonville & Tallahassee.

Here's our chance to show other groups our great machines. I hope we don't miss the boat on these events.

Matt,
Please stop in, if even for an hour or so. After a short seminar, the kids & parents break for questions pertaining to airboats/hunting/events. Can always use another hand.....

Hey Gatorstick,

I copied your reply and sent it to some NE airboaters maybe one of them will contact you.

I will be out of town on those dates

Tim

Thanks to Matt (Moodfood) for the pictures!!

Florida Airboat Association Member Peace River Valley Airboat Club educate future Sportsmen at Trailblazer Event

Saturday, April 8 was a great day of excitement for almost 500 Scouts and their parents at the Flaming Arrow boy scout camp in Lake Wales. These kids participated in the US Sportsmen Alliance sponsored Trailblazer event, which introduces youngsters to our rich outdoor heritage.

The Trailblazer events introduce kids to hunting, fishing, archery, canoeing, trapping, shooting and other traditional outdoor actives. Peace River Valley Airboat Club members Allen & son Bubba Thomas, along with Albert Skinner brought their airboats and spoke about their Florida wetlands based actives. Allen spoke on many topics, including safe boating (wear your PFD), community service-airboat style (lake clean ups, search & rescue, New Orleans), gator hunting, hog hunting, frogging, fishing and general airboat actives, including an airboat's ability to run dry ground! According to the enthusiastic response from the kids and their desire of having their pictures taken on the boats, the airboats were a huge hit!

There are two more Trailblazer events in Florida this month. On April 22, the Jacksonville Equestrian Center will be hosting up to 5,000 Scouts. On April 29, the Wallwood camp (west of Tallahassee, South of Quincy) will host another group of enthusiasts. We hope to have airboat sportsmen represented at both events.

The Florida Airboat Association is an umbrella statewide sportsmen organization of airboat related businesses, organizations and clubs. We actively promote safe boating while protecting our natural resources. The FAA members have a long tradition as leaders in conservation, humanitarian aid and protection of Florida's native habitats by both word and action of it's members.
The members of the Florida Airboat Association received United States Congressional recognition in 2005 for their resolve in volunteer rescue efforts of hurricane Katrina victims.

Dad and I had a super time with the kids. And I think the kids had even a better time. Some of the kids even told there parants that thay needed to get one of those fanboats so they can go see what we see out in the marsh.

I would like to thank you for having us there. THANK YOU :)

UncleBubba, it is you all that need the thanks! Thanks to your efforts our future leaders, spokesmen and sportsmen have experienced a positive learning experience that will not soon be forgotten! I don't think that they will soon forget the thrill of sitting in the drivers seat on an airboat!

Thank you for stepping up to this plate and promoting airboating sportsmen.
