Hello All ,

I'm from S.C but moved here to Alaska 6 years ago. I tried posting this on our Alaska Air Boat forum , But thought I would post it here also in case someone might have some info for me.

I just bought a 10 ft custom weld airboat with a Merc engine ,. My first question is how do I tell what size engine in on this thing ? All I can find is the name on the engine " MERC " Its a pull start I always wanted an airboat and this is the perfect size for where I hunt moose and caribou. The boat is in superb condition . I need help on where can I find a manual on this thing . I need to know the fuel mix. The guy I bought it off of only drove it twice and had it in his barn since then so he was no help . He said he got it from a guy who needed some cash.

Here is a link to The Alaska air boat site just copy and paste if ya can not click on it. This will take you right to where I have the photos so you can see it . I hope some one can help .

Thanks All

Have some sweet tea for me and my wife, " I sure miss that " :D And my boiled P - nuts

Alaskatours,
If you can't foind a manual, I would try running it on premium pump gas and an ester synthetic pre-mix oil at 25:1.

A ratio this heavy should be a safe starting point. The worst thing that could happen is that you oil foul a plug.

Get it hot, and run for a few minuits at a high throttle setting, and shut it off with out any idling period.

Then pull the plugs, and see that they have a nice carmel color on the insulator tips. If they read dark, then back down on the oil. If they read white, then add more.

Gotta Go, my sweet tea glass is empty.

Happy New Year,

I believe that's a snowmobile engine. I searched "merc snowmobile engine" and came up with alot of info. One was a Merc Trail Twister snowmobile. I'd find some old snowmobilers or a shop---I bet they would know. I'd get some new plugs and start at 20:1 after a good cleaning of the carb. The jets are most likley restricted from old gas varnish and this could make it run lean. Gook look---thats a cool toy.

I sure would have bought that for $800. How can you go wrong. I'd love to have a little boat like that for just messing around on little rivers and right now here in California we're getting a lot of flooding. That would be just the ticket for getting around on what are normally streets but are now waterways. I also think it is a snow mobile engine and you should be able to find info on the internet. Have fun!

Thanks for all your input , I'll give the fuel ratio a try everyone was telling me 50:1 but I like your idea better.

Cowboy , That was cruel about the glass of tea

Stay warm ...Oh I forgot , your not in Alaska its only -20 here , I'm only thinking of spring 5 more months away.
