is anybody with a 540 or 520 running a 74" compsite prop? im trying to come up with the right setup for my new boat. ive read the post by thunder and country about spinning a bigger prop slower for sound purposes. and it makes very good sense. i just wonder how this would apply(if at all) to an a/c application? i ran the sensenich Q series on my 220 boat. it definatley made a big differnece. it was a 72" and a i spun the heck out of it on the 2-1/2 mark. i just want to get the right prop combo for my motor and exhaust setup.i have know desire to race, im a hillrunner and cruiser for my ridin style. i dont mind sacrificeing a little "snap" for more thrust less sound. thanks for any input.

I have run a 5 blade 72" warp drive for 12 years on a 0540 Lyc with very good results. I have had to have blades repairs when head set , dog bowl, decoy ect went thru the prop. After each time I made it home with damaged blade. One timme I went to walmart, bougt an expoxie repair kit & a round file. Cleaned up the damage with the round file & put 5 min expoxie on it & ran the rest of the trip 2 more days then sent prop in. I have set mine @10.5 degrees 2525 STATIC RPM

They have been very good at turn around times aaand reepair cost. I think $60 per blade plusw shipping.

Cracker: Not trying to sound like a smart butt but if you call the boys at sensenitch in plant city I have found them to be very informative and knowledgeable. They will advise ou on both power and sound if you ask. They have told me most folks are not interested yet in sound but they have lots of data if you will ask, least they did for me.

I run a 78" Whirlwind Stump puller wide blade on my 520 works very well. set on the 13 referance mark at 2800 rpm

Craker&mgm123.. Craker the push is great and snaps up fairly fast up to about 2500 then it will go on up. I used to have a wood 72x36 wide blade and I think it snaps a little faster than it did with that prop on it.
mgm123.. the motor is pushing around 300-310 hp the only hopped up thing on it is [1] its fresh[2] it has a phase3 longer duration cam[3] Demon 750 double pumper carb.. built by J.C. Stanley I think your right most people run a 72-74 prop which is fine just put more pitch in it.. It would proably snap up faster maybe.. MR.Stanley is the one that suggested running the 78" and if you go to the Whirlwind web site they also list the 78" stump puller as a prop you can run on a 520.
