New Driver

OVER BUDGET

Well-known member
Took my 13 year old son to Lake O Saturday and he decided it was time for him to learn how to drive.I took him to some shallow water and told him what to do and what not to do.I gave him the stick and he took of slow and felt the boat out. With in ten minutes he was driving like he had been driving all his life. Now he wants to know when he is getting his own boat,I told him when he gets a job.It is different from the back seat but I guess I will get used to it. Looks like we have a future air boater.

I love this story.

Our babies are our future .... looks like you'll be lookin for another small, light hull one of these days. :)
Look at it this way, OB. You'll always have somebody to ride with.

He`s like American express I wont leave home with out him. He`s looking forward to his first duck season this year.If you keep them interested in something positive they stay out of trouble.Another boat the wife's going to love that.

She'll get over it, Tom. My experience has been that if it's for one of the babies, well then it's OK ...... .

A while back I let my 16 y/o daughter drive our boat. I don't know exactly what happened but all of a sudden we were making a sweaping turn towards the bank.

As I got up to lean over her shoulder and take control, I noticed that she was letting off the gas a little at a time and w/o me even having to get involved or say anything, she managed to get us stopped just as we touched the bank.

I was very impressed that she did not panic and make things worse. I have told her many times that PANIC in any situation is the absoloute worst thing you can do. I was very happy that she responded the way she did.

She loves riding and driving so the experience did not turn her off one bit... I say "Way to GO" for getting the kids involved...

There is just absolutely no way to go wrong getting the kids involved and doing things with you.

My youngest was "around" 13 when he got the bug. To this day he will not be without a boat and will run at the first phone call to help someone in trouble on the marsh.

Good show !

I wish I had a boat when I was 13. I think it would have saved me a lot of mental angst as I was coming up.

Now that I have one, I have a lot less stress in my life.

I always say, my only regret about my boat is that I didn't do it a long time ago.

I started driving my dad's boat when I was 5, mainly due to an overpropped 307 chevy with a lack of water. Since then I would always drive while dad was messing with something on our way out to camp. I got my own airboat when I was 13 as a christmas present from a friend of ours and I am still running it 17 years later. I grew up on airboats and the glades, and I have been bringing my daughter out ever since she turned 6 months old. It is a family thing with me that I hope never changes with the future.

My granddaughter is going to be 10 years old in a couple of weeks.
Driving the boat lessons start this next Spring, and by the time she's old enough to drive a car all the little boys had better have their s--t together if they want to keep up with her ..... 8) .
