New engine stand

I am changing out my four cyl and going with a six cyl. I was just curious on what everybody is running on their boat from back of boat to the prop. I was going to try and keep it the same as where the four cyl was but the prop is going to be alot further back or the motor is going to be forward alot further. Is there pretty much a standard measurement to place the engine from the back of boat , or is it trial and error? Thanks again for any help.

When I was building them I just used a beer or soda can for a quick reference. I hear composites flex more than wood props so might give an extra inch or so maybe.

Its more important where your weight ends up than where the prop is located. Balancing is a delicate act. There should be some threads here about balancing the boat several of us do it differently but most of us do at least some sort of balancing act for the hull. General rule is the balance point should be 1/3 forward from the transom. This is for an all up boat, battery, gas, oil, fuel, cooler, and you. Don't worry too much about the cooler cause you can slide it around where ya need it.

Consider your prop length too. With the six if your going to run a longer prop make sure your prop is not too far down in the boat. Raise the engine height if you have to. It will save you later on.

Props flex forward, not backward

3" is plenty if your engine stand is built right.

However, if your hull has a problem with porpoising, or you have a very long hull, you may want to move the engine forward a bit more
