Re: INVITATION
Rebirth of New Orleans/Katrina Anniversary

The Honorable Ray Nagin, Mayor of the City of New Orleans, has extended his personal invitation to all airboaters in America who responded to the needs of his City during the Hurricane Katrina ordeal to participate in the Rebirth New Orleans/Katrina Anniversary Procession and Second Line to take place on Tuesday, August 29, 2006.

The Procession will start at 1400 hours at the Convention Center, proceed to Poydras St. and then to the Super Dome. Staging for the event will take place at the Convention Center at 1300 hours. Your participation in this event is to recognize you for your part in the Hurricane Katrina recovery efforts.

Headquarters for the event will be the JW Marriott Hotel, 614 Canal Street, New Orleans, LA 70130. Rooms have been set aside at a very special rate for participants of $89.00 per night, plus tax. Rooms are available at this rate from Sunday, August 27th through Tuesday, August 29th. There will be a briefing held at the JW Marriott on Monday evening to pre-plan the events for the Procession at a time TBA.

Reservations can be made through the Marriott Reservations Hotline at 1-800-228-9290 or the JW Marriott at 1-504-525-6500. Please mention "Rebirth New Orleans - Katrina Anniversary" when making your reservations. FYI, this rate is per room so rooms may be shared for those participating in this event will each receive a certificate of recognition for their participation.

In addition, those planning on attending the Procession/Second Line are asked to send an e-mail with their name and address (for the certificates) to TaskForceNOLA@yahoo.com. Additional information may be obtained through Chief Jim O'Neill at jioneill@yahoo.com

For the parade, they would like no less than one airboat and three people representing the airboaters. The representatives need to be in New Orleans and at the JW Marriott Hotel, 614 Canal Street, New Orleans, LA 70130, at 6:00 pm for orientation.

Brian you going to go, I think it would be nice to see what the city looks like when it's not under water.

Hey Wingman,
I'm thinking about it. I was planning to be in the area around that time to have the ol airboat repaired at the factory... Maybe I can get Stan to work on it a little earlier than planned and get it all dolled up for the parade....
What about you? :D
B.

I was planning on going, But I don't know if they want us to bring our boats that a long way to haul your boat for just a parade, I thought I would just fly over there because I can fly for free.If you come over there mabe we can room together and get caught up on things.Did you ever put your Katrina decal on your rudders?

Wingman,
I figured if I was going to be near there anyway (getting the airboat fixed) that I'd try to push to get it fixed and ready for the parade.. Well, at least that's my wishful thinking... I'll know more within the next few days... If I can pull the repair thing off. I'll love to see you down there...
Again, I'll know more with in the next few days..

This is truly an awesome gesture. I hope the men and women that participated in the Katrina clean up get to be there with heads held high. You are all heroes in your own right.

George and Brian,

I am SO glad it is not this time last year, with the coming events! We need to celebrate the times past, the good done, and give tribute to all the AIRBOATERS that risked life, limb and equipment to save others.

You boys and many others are deserving of this honor/invitation--go-- and be recognized for the modern day HERO'S that you are. We are all so proud to be AIRBOATERS and proud of YOU!

P.S. Ms. Wizard, send me a note on how things are going....so good to see you posting again!

Hey guys I know you all did a wonderful job in New Orleans and want to go back for this party.I'm not trying to butt in here but I have 4 familys that have moved to Georgia since Katrina ran them out. They all have had to go back many times for different things. My point is just about EVERYTIME one of them returns to work on the house that was pretty much destroyed, their cars, trucks ect. have been broken into or the house they are trying to repair needs more repair from the damage someone did while they were away. The crime there is really bad.So just be really careful and watch your backside. There are many good people there trying so hard to put it back together and then you find a low life that does not want them to do so.Just my two cents worth.Carol

I'm so tired of hearing about HEROS, since 9-11 all police and all fire fighters are considered heros! B.S. We all saw the pictures of the police in New Orleans looting and just plane stealing from helpless victims. Then along comes some civilans with airboats to help. They paid their own way to the city and probably bought their own gas, just to help save lives! lives of people they didn't even know! And why should they be considered heros. My hat's off to you guys, take your moment in the sun, you deserve it, not because you have an airboat but because of what you did.

Glenn

I am one of those that went to New Orleans and I do understand what you are saying about some of the Police officers from New Orleans that took advantage of the situation or just deserted there jobs but there was a few that did stick it out and stay and help I am a Law Enforcement officer my self and I have never thought of my self as a Hero just a humanatarian I spent about 1800. of my own money and used my vacation time to go down there to help not because I am a cop or to be a hero but because it was the right thing to do but I just wanted you to know there were a few from the city and the State police,Fish & Game and fire that stayed the course and risked there lives to do there jobs and help.

Those who volunteer and spend their own money to do it right are a notch above the rest.

Fortunately in FL we are blessed with a large percentage of LEOs that get it right. Soulds like GA has a few as well.

Ya don't have to be an LEO to contribute, but when an LEO takes his own money, which he has little of to begin with, and goes to help, thats above and beyond the call of duty. That indeed speaks of the man not the badge.

You can buy a badge in most any trinket store, that badge only means what YOU make it mean.

You go Sniper !

Scotty

Thanks Scotty that means a lot I know there are some bad Cops out there
but that does not make us all bad, I have all ways tried to use good judgement and not abuse my authority and treat people that I have to deal with respect as long as they treat me the same and I do give a lot of people breaks and I wish more of my brothers in the law did as well I think it helps build respect and you get a lot more friends that way not being hard nosed but it does feel good when some one like you to take the time and say thanks.

Sniper, the contribution you, Brian, and dozens of others made was never in question by those of us who have been active on this site for some time. If there's a next time, I intend to go with you.

Thanks for your service, not just as an airboater, but also in your daily life.
