No Fire

I have a GPU and I'm gettin' no fire at the plugs. I believe it's the mag. Can anybody recommend someone near Orlando?

Before you spend a lot of money, get some fine emery cloth
and cut a piece about 1''x2'' fold it in half longways grit side
out and with the points closed ( you may have to turn the
motor ) spread them out just a tiny bit with a small screw
driver slide the emery cloth between the contacts release
the points and sand them lightly, three or four strokes should
do fine ( not to much ) If still no fire, disconnect the wire from
the mag to make sure it's not grounding out somewhere in
your wiring system. If still no fire CALL THE MAN !!!

Kmac, dont forget the old dollar bill between them to get out any left over grit after the sanding. Sometimes the grit stays in between and the can't make contact.

All right y'all, ESPECIALLY RICH, we have checked the points with a dollar bill and some fine grit and it didn't work, but thank yall for thinking abou it. Surely there is somebody that will volunteer to jump into this electricl mess?

Whew, that should have come out as, "electrical mess". Need to put down my drink while I'm typin'.

Bo,
R U getting fire from the batt? Then to the Celenoid...back track to where you are loosing fire...if your loosing it from the mags, I suggest a mag overhaul because they probably need it.

Check ground wire, replace points and condenser. If no fire pull the mag off and apart
theres not much to em, clean the guts up with emory cloth and put it back together.
before you put inside plate on snap (spin) the mag and you can feel it. Line up your timing marks and put it back in, replace P&C put on front cover and there you go.
It may be totally shot but they usally just need to be cleaned up good.
Takes less than an hour to do.

Thanks for the tips guys.

I was just pokin' a little fun back at ya Rich, I appreciate yours and all replies. Just so you know, it's not beyond me to leave the selector switch off! :D

Hey bohawg, One more thing the gap needs to be about .018-.019 when the points are at their widest point. I've seen the plastic piece on the points wear down and change the gap until they wouldn't fire. Just one more thing I thought of.

Bo, did you check to see if your battery had any juice.....Red is negative, black is positive, just making sure you hooked it up properly.

Several people have said it, but disconnect the P-lead from your mag switch and the mag should be hot. It could be something in the switch that is grounding the P-lead. If the P-lead isn't grounded the engine could start so don't move the prop. The battery has nothing to do with your magneto. I've flown and built planes that didn't even have a battery.
