Not getting fire

As I posted earlier I am looking at a boat with a Lycoming O320. It has been sitting up for a couple of years without running. Well today I was going to go for a test run and it wouldn't start. We pulled a spark plug and were not getting fire. Is it common for the points to get corroded in these mags? If we can't get it running what are my options for a rebuilt mag or how much is a new set. They are Bendix.

Thanks

Check the points, when I tried to start mine after I bought it didn't have spark.I just carefully sanded them and its been fine since. Also make sure your mag is not grounded out.Bad switches are another place to look.I hope that helps.

Usually points are the problem when a boat sits for a while. They get a growth on them. They can be sanded with a points file or some fine sand paper. The problem is that after you get them sanded they will corrode easier next time. You can sand the points protective coating so they will keep giving you a problem. If you still have a problem you can send them to us for a complete magneto overhaul.
