Hello everyone,
Just a hello to all as I see there is a strong united group here. I wanted to see if someone would share some knowledge and experience. I have a hull with cage, rigging, and engine with a Belt reduction unit for a ford engine. This reduction unit came out of an airplane where I aqquired the engine mount, the belt drive, and the motor 3.8 ford. I was told the bolt pattern for the 3.8 would mate with a small block ford engine and the reduction unit would more then handle the HP. Anyone have any experience with Ford small blocks, 351W, or 302, I have headers and a mild cam new I could use! And I wanted to purchace an aluminum hull GLADES EASY RIDER HULLS 14-14070 14' x 7' Aluminum Hull 2950.00 ea. What type of prop would be a good setup, I'm thinking approx, 400hp, maybe the Cobra supercharged engine, or 351w stroked. Any and all advice is would be great. I work in the Oil Buisness, and have 6 mos out of the year off, new to Citrus County, Tampa naitive, I have property on the Withalacoochie river.

This PSRU is a 2:1, all of the Gates belts are available online, I ordered two just in case one breaks, also ordered some extra bearings, and had the puck that hold this lower bearing from a machine shop online! The cad software is free and the machining was so cheap. I was thinking about machining some hubs for the blades, does anyone know if this is illegal for personal use? And if not if someone would consider letting me measure and put it in cad, I will order them a spare hub for their blades.

PS how do you add a picture, I could show you the actual build if helpful!

a 78 falcon from power shift 3 blade would work great with 400 hp at 2to1 , most folk s on this site on new boat builds are going 268to1 gear driv drives with small block chevys and super wide seninch 3 blade set ups welcome back your in the right place

Quick responses, thanks for the advice, I'm going to jump right in and research that, sounds good. Thanks for the welcome back too, great site and I just paid the Southern Airboat fee to increase my storage, If I can just figure out how to post  Thanks again

There are 2 ways to add a picture to a thread

If you already have a photo on the web (on another site) you can simply right click on the picture, click on "properties" and then highlight and copy the properties. Then come back here, start a post, and click "IMG" above. Right click again, click "Paste" and then click "IMG one more time.
That's it

Or, if you have a photo on your computer, you can go to the "Pictures and Wallpapers" section, click "upload photos", follow the directions there, and then go through the same process as above once you have uploaded. Be sure that when you're doing this, you are right clicking on the full-size photo, and not the small thumbnail version, or your post will show up with the small picture.

WElcome to the site. Be sure that you shop around and read a lot of threads on here before you purchase a hull and a propeller. "Airboat" is one word made from two, and the most important parts are where it meets the water, and where it meets the air.

Happy readin'

The 351 W Ford based motor has the most potential of all the small block V8's in an airboat. I'm talking unlimited all out best of everything the 351W has an advantage or two!

OK now you have peaked my curiosity! Could you please just explain why the Windsor, has its advantages over other small block engines? My uncle was a pro Drag racer and as a kid he use to ramble HP increases and little tricks that would increase HP. He died a few years ago, but he played a major role in some of the fastest drag cars in the world. Also he was cutting edge in how he line boared his cams at an angle. Later this was used in the new Dodge Hemi block, and had some input on this design. He was a California kid, really new his stuff. God rest his sole!
