I WAS AT CAMP MACK AND THE LAKES FOR FOUR DAYS ! I COUNTED 43 BOATS NO MUFFLERS ! 11 NO FLAGS AND 24 THAT COULD CARE ABOUT NOTHING BUT THEMSELVES ! I SEEN OLD MEN IN 12 FT JON BOAT GET BLASTED FOR NO REASON ! MOST OF THEM WERE AIRBOATS AND BASS BOATS ! NO REGARD ! I DONT MEAN ! THERE WAS NO GOOD ONES OUT THERE ! THERE WAS !BUT FOR MOST PART THE BAD ONES STOOD OUT MORE !NOW I KNOW WHY FWC NOT PUSHING SOME THINGS ! THEY ARE LETTING US DO IT TO OURSEVLES ! AND WE ARE DOING A FINE JOB OF IT !ALOT OF GOOD POEPLE HEAR ! BUT THE BADS GOING TO TAKE IT AWAY FROM US UNLESS YALL GET OFF YOUR BUTT AND TELL SOME OF THEM ENOUGHT , ENOUGHT ! I DIDNT MAKE MANY FRINDS OVER THERE THIS WEEKEND ! BUT THATS THE FACTS !I LIVE IN A COUNTY THATS ALREADY DID IT ! SO I AM NOT TALKING OUT OF TURN !I WILL BE THERE TO REPRESENT US ! BUT THEM POEPLE HAVE A GOOD CHANCE OF SMOKING OUR BUTTS ! THE POEPLE THAT LIVE AT THE CAMP WILL BE THERE ! THEY WANT A CURFEW AND I AM SURE THEY WILL GET IT ! AND YALL BETTER HOPE IT NOT 6 PM TO 8 AM LIKE HERE ! :D HAPPY NEW YEAR! YALL !
 
Yep fatboy you hittin the nail on the head. c curfew like we got here would wind that up wouldn't it. No muss no fuss just done deal.
 
There's already a curfew for Camp Mack and Lakes Kissimmee & Hatchineha...Polk County has one on the books...they just don't enforce it. That's a lot of land to cover with a few officers.

Like Gatorstick used to like to say, "We have met the enemy, and it is us." Fat, you're right my friend .... the airboaters that don't get it are killin' us.

I've thought some about this, and I've never been one to rat, but I think the next time I go to the river and see some clown runnin around with no mufflers, no flag, or otherwise showin his a$$ I'm gonna take his tail numbers and make the call.
This isn't fun anymore for all of us who are tryin, and they're messin with me and my right to run now.

This is an enforcement issue. Maybe the only way we can get some more time is to help carry out some of the trash ourselves. If they don't care about me, then why am I protecting them ...... :? ?

I couldn't agree more! I was just south of Hat-Bill park yesterday and passed three kicker boats with kids parked on the edge of the river. I slowed down to a crawl, like I always do, when I went by. Later I parked on the north side of Orange Mound. I could still see the kicker boats and about 5 minutes later, I saw an airboat go by that same corner and blast all those kids. This is not good! As airboaters we have a special duty to be polite and careful. We have to be aware of what comes out of the back of our boats and like it or not, we are all judged by the bad acts of a few.
 
HEY SWAMPJET !! can you shed a little light on the curfew in citrus county and if it works and if it is enforced, I have heard of airboaters having to spend the night, a very cold night, sitting on their boats because they were caught out there and if they cranked em up to go back to the ramp they would have been fined 500 bucks and could lose their boats and they were not even from there. OH YEAH it is not clearly posted at all the ramps either so you can be in violation of an ordinance you are not even aware of.
 
cntry the curfew in Citrus Co. is 6 AM to11Pm I have heard boats pass 11 PM it is kind of hard to enforce in my opinion there are to many boats that live on the lakes unless their neighbors turn them in or the FWC or Sheriff is out riding which they are some times. I have been caught out frogging and the fog row in and have to idle back in pass 11pm.

The curfew has been in effect sense early 80's

Rode with boblee74 at Hernando their was 21 boats at the Pines and only 1 no mufflers and 3 no flags. It is getting better up there.

OK,OK,OK, y'all done pulled me out of my Ambitious Boy chair to respond.
First about Citrus County, yes we have a curfew of 11:00pm to 6:00am and it is enforced. It is also a MISDEMEANOR not just a ticket. I am currently working to get that changed to a ticket but keep the curfew. The area is heavily populated around the lakes and we all need our beauty sleep.

Next about Osceola County, we (FAA with help from our lobbyist) are in contact with the County Attorney to work this problem out. Now they can pass any law they want as long as it gets a super-majority vote. Any less than that won't pass. They could also put a curfew on ALL boats but I don't think B.A.S.S. and other groups would like that.

FB, you are right about the "fellow airboaters" that are resistant to change. Some how we need to find a way (BE POLITE) to encourage them to see the light so to say. Let them understand that they, through their actions, are jeopardizing the very recreation which we all are trying to protect.
Don't get mad and even, just let them know you are disappointed with their ways and tell them why. If they still want to get in your face just remember that you are the better man.

Doing what is Right, Honor, and Righteousness still have meanings to be proud of.

Just ask them if their Mom and Dad would be proud of that action. I have asked myself that many times and have stopped in my tracks.

I saw Citrus County SO go after some curfew breaker(s) the other night due to complaints in and around the SR 44 Citrus/Sumter line... ended up a BONUS for them as they actually heard two shots, which turned out to be poachers out fire hunting. They had the Helicopter on station quickley thus no where for the guy(s) to hide. A doe was recovered at the scene.

FWC showed up and citation(s) issued... I think the main violator was local and lived close by.

Just makes it harder on airboat owners...

I could be wrong as I'm not an attorney, but IF you caused injury or damage to another boater with your wake or prop wash, you could be held liable, arrested and/or sued. God help you if someone dies or is perminantly injured because of it. Lots of folks don't see it until after the fact.
Fellas I've had boats damn near my entire life and the very first thing that was taught was respect for the "other" boater, you might need him to save your life someday!

Video tapeing a boater breaking the law with assinine behaviour is easy and offers enough proof for LEO's to take action.
Pulling someone off to the side and telling them that they're behaviour is a poor reflection on the community will have mixed results: Goodmen will admit that they were wrong and promis to do better, but the "drunks" and "outlaws" (and you know who they are) will proabably start screaming "Who the f^ck are you!" and get worse from there. Now would be a good time for the Cops to take over.
ALWAYS hold the high ground, and whenever possible take several of your like minded friends with you...A-holes are also cowards, and with the same message comeing from two or three men, he's a bit more likely to get it.
Establish a repor with the LEO's in your area, it's usually the same fellows covering the area all the time in diffrent shifts, they will also keep the next shift posted as to what's going on.
If you see someone running without mufflers or flags, it wouldn't be a bad idea to walk up with a little information on the law, and suggestions on where/how to get outfitted with mufflers. With flags, keeping an extra one at camp could open the door to a whole new friendship: "Hey, I see you lost your flag (maby didn't have one to start with, but it's un-assuming)...I sure wouldn't want you to get a ticket, so I brought down an extra one you can have".

I meant that we heard several boats out there...I would never condone violating a curfew.... :roll:
