It's a paradox of our society that some of the most naturally splendorous and peaceful places in the country tend to attract people employing machines that greatly disturb the peace. Yosemite and other national parks in colder climates are invaded each winter by people riding snowmobiles, which spew noise and pollution across the landscape.
Here in Florida, a comparably clamorous vehicle disrupts the atmosphere in just about anyplace where water can be found. Airboats are the epitome of American self-centeredness - useful for those who employ them and unpleasant for anyone else unfortunate enough to be in the vicinity of one.
