I took my family for a ride in a buddies boat up to Oak Head Sunday. There were four boats with us. When we arrived there were some tree hugger bicyclist up there. In case you don't know the Oak Head is part of a bicycle nature trail. These were the typical ignorant environmentalist, you know they think the out doors should only be enjoyed their way. Well these freaks were wearing French or Italian spandex gear and those gay bicycle hats. However they were using their phones to take pictures of all the trash around OakHead and there was plenty. One of them started bitching to me about broken glass everywhere and how he was afraid to ride his bike out there. I yelled don't cry to me I only drink cans and we bring back everything we take out! To be honest I wasn't in the mood and I went for a boat ride to get away from all the @$$ holes not to beat one into the ground infront of my family. Anyway after they left I realized now all of them punks will be at county commissioners meetings or call the authorities to complain about us airboaters. So me my family and tow other friends got some trash bags and cleaned the place we took out four huge trash bags full of bottles an cans! I hate the ignorant tree huggers but I do agree with them about the trash it's wrong to just chuck bottles and we all had better keep that place cleaner now on or we will loose that place to the tree huggers also!
 
Hey Thunder, I'm guessing a majority of that trash was left from folks that arrived their other than by airboat... Oh, I guess I'll leave my helmet at home on my next airboat ride. I thought it was kinda cool :lol:

You couldnt be more right. I have always tried to take the side of the airboaters in issues but this is one time I agree with the tree huggers. I have seen the cabin area south river so trashed we didnt even stop in, just went on down the canal and pitched tents. This is a long time ago, but my point is it was a problem even in the '70s and its still a problem today everywhere. Plain and simple trash breeds trash ! If we don't clean up after ourselves then it falls to someone else to do it for us and when poush comes to shove, the ones that bitch the loudest and do the most cleaning up after other folks may be the ones who have access. I don't mean ALL airboaters trash the place, I know many who always carry bags of trash out with them no matter where they go. But I mean ALL airboaters losing the access we constantly cry about.

I have never felt it was good to police someone elses actions, but I think its past time for some of this to take place. If we don't wanna confront them in the marsh, then post photos of them from your cell phones or post their FL numbers if you can. We really do need a clearing house for abusers of the outdoors.

I have tried to get folks to confront politicians who work against us and there is always an excuse, plus they are afraid of this , or afraid of that. Confrontation it seems to me is all thats left. We try to be nice and educate and it is only heard by the folks who arent littering in the first place.

This crap is just like other "Education" programs. The only folks it does anything for are the folks who wouldn't have a problem in the first place.

Soooo what ya think about taking pictures and posting them of litterbugs? Granted you wont catch every one of them in the act but those who ya can might get a bit embarassed here and there.

that sounds like a good idea! i say snap it and post it, maybe it will get someones attention and perhaps they will not do it again (especially if we forward the post to the fwc or proper authorities.)

I've never seen too many bicyclists headed out carrying too many bottles and cans of beer...........I'm not familiar with the area to know whether or not you can access that spot with any other means besides airboat, bicycles, or walking so I can't say for sure but, from what I've seen at other places I wouldn't be so quick myself to rule out one of us. There are some slobs among us.

The only problem I see is that the people that abuse these things are people that don't care and would not care if there picture is posted or there name is used. All we can do is our best to control the problem and shoot those that dont listen.

EVER SINCE I STARTED AIRBOATIN THE OAK HEAD HAS ALWAYS BEEN FULL OF TRASH.YOU ARE RIGHT NOW THAT THEY HAVE OPENED UP THE NEW WMA THE OAK HEAD HAS BEEN OPENED UP FOR BIKE RIDES,HORSEBACK,AND WALKING.NOW EVERY TREE HUGGER CAN SEE HOW MANY SLOB A$$ AIRBOATER.THE PROBLEM IS THEY ARE AFRAID THEY ARE GOING TO GET CAUGHT AT THE RAMP WITH ALL THE EMPTIES.IF THEY TOOK THE TIME TO RELIZE THEIR IS A 55 GALLON TRASH BEEN THEIR,BUT THEY ARE TO LAZY TO DO SO.IT IS A SHAME FOR THE REST OF US,CAUSE OF A FEW $H!T HEADS.WHEN EVER THEIR IS GIGS GOING ON UP THEIR FISHBACK ALWAYS PUT THE TRASH BAGS IN MY BOAT BECAUSE I DON'T DRINK,AND HAVE NOTHING TO WORRY ABOUT TO MANY EMPTIES.YOU CAN DO THE SAME.
 
Good thinking there, and I'm willing to carry anyones empties out, but it still comes down to if YOU take it in, YOU take it out. If you take it out knowing you might get busted at the hill bringing it back in, then don't take it out. I have heard of this busted thing for open containers all my life nearly and I have yet to see anyone busted for it when they had no booze in the boat and was just carrying trash out.

Does anyone have any different FIRST HAND experience?

Even if they are busting folks at the hill for open container, it is STILL wrong to leave trash in the woods for someone else to ha ve to carry out. Even if there is good logic for it, it is still wrong.

Thunder,Thanks from another local for cleaning it up! It happens alot more now down at bird platt and the cabin as well. been talking to a few of the old timers trying to get them to start going back out and help put the "KIDS" in line and clean up after them selfs,seems like most of em don`t want to deal with it anymore.Scotty,the time has passed for not being confrontational,if we don`t keep it clean we will loose it.I`d hate to see the cabins get the same fate as the others that used to be around.
 
Every year KRVSA put on a lake cleanup and take huge piles off the kiss chain you dont see bass masters ass. doing that or any one else for that matter non airboater wise :D
 
Chill Water. I was there. I spent about 30 minuets talking to them.We also talked to them about the clean up That the hunters have to clean up after all the slobs out there. Its better to enlighten them that there not the only ones that want to preserve the outdoors. Also to show them most of use are good people.

I thought she would loose it when Dan took a bite out the raw catfish. I think she would of eaten every orange she could get.
 
Any Airbaoter that would throw his trash on the ground in the marsh, or river, or on the lake is NOT a REAL Airboater. Thier airboat is only a vehicle to them. What's most important is THEM and their drinking and partying. They could care less about any REAL airboaters wanting to enjoy the same area for it's natural beauty and the history of the places and what they've meant to REAL airboaters over the years. They could care less if these areas are lost to REAL airboaters due to their actions. If they can't run their airboat out to trash places like the Oak Head they'll run their airboat to some other place to do the same thing. If there becomes no place to run their airboat to party, they'll trash places on their 4-wheeler or by some other means.

These a$$holes need to be taken out like the trash they leave behind. On more than one occasion I've seen scum bags drop trash on the ground in parking lots. I like to go over pick it up and hand it back to them and say you dropped this. Most times they are embarrassed and put it back in their vehicle or find a trash can. I've had a few heated discussions over it too. I make sure those folks know I think they are scum bags. May not save the world but it makes me feel better.

If you see trash pick it up. If you see trash throwing trash in "Airboat Country" tell them what you think about it.

About the being afraid of the open container business:
In my opinion, any FWC or Other enforcement officer that considered the contents of a Trash Bag as a reason to write you up needs to be reported because his head is definitely in a wrong place. They should bragging on you, not writing you, and that can be handled through Tallahassee IMO.

Bring it in ? Take it out. And if you have to pick up after some other inconsiderate butt head then do it. Trash is trash, and some of it has
two legs.

Canefan is 110% right. The trash is left by trash, and we need to take out the trash. Then the trash will not leave anymore trash. Cut the head off that snake.
Heck when I used to smoke, I did not even flip butts in the water. They went into the bilge or my pocket. I've seen Thunder do the same.

But the thing that irks me the most is that lame "RATIONALIZATION".
That's 100% B U L L S H I T about tossing your empties on the hill because you are "afraid" of getting an open container violation if you get stopped along the way, or back at the ramp. TOTAL BULL!
You are not afraid. You are weak. You are lazy. You are inconsiderate.
And it's the same sort of inconsideration that got us the muffler law.
So if you leave empties, it's your fault (in a round about way) that we have the muffler law,
and more laws TRYING to be put on us. YOUR FAULT.

Ya know what that says? It says something very important about YOU.
If you use that open container lame excuse WHEN YOU TOSS A BOTTLE OR CAN OVER THE SIDE then:
  • You are saying that you are an irresponsible person.
    You are saying that your own drinking today, is more important than other's (& your own) enjoyment tomorrow.
    You are saying that you are self centered and selfish.
    You are saying that you are WEAK. (and worthless)
Because if you were strong you'd face the music and do the right thing.
(like MOST of us)

If you use that lame excuse, we'll all know who to blame when we get booted out of areas,
We'll all know who to blame when we have to get a license to drive a boat.
We'll all know who to blame when we see stepped up enforcement cruising the areas we like to be alone.

how to avoid an open cotainer ticket or arrest (rare but happens).is to carry a proper trash recepticle. if you have a garbage back place it in a garbage bag,done deal.if you have a frog chute and are not froggin stick your sack on the chute and it is now a trash can.same with motor vehicle.once in a known bag or container of trash it is discarded refuse.
