Ocean Conservancy needs airboats at Matlacha Pass - Feb. 07

Daddy Dave

Well-known member
Dave;

We are planning a derelict crab trap cleanup in Matlacha Pass on Thurs Feb 7, 8am - 1pm. It is going to be a very low tide. The area that we're targeting is south of Matlacha Bridge, on the flats where a lot of crabbing activity occurs.

Please let me know if there are any local airboaters that would be available to assist.

Thanks and Happy New Year!

Jessica

Chris,

It's on the south side of Charlotte Harbor, west of Punta Gorda, down Burnt Store Road towards Pine Island. Matlacha is an Old Florida fishing village for sure. HarryTFirefighter and I plan on being there, too. We'll be leaving Tampa at 5 am that morning. Geesh.

Hey,sounds fun but on a thursday??? Who picks a thursday!! I would love to but I may have to work. If it was a weekend there would be no question. I will try. Thanks.

Geesh......I gues I`ll see ya on the way. I`ll even get there this time. I don`t know if you saw but I trashed a wheel bearing last Sat am. After a late start and then not having a spare and calling Sophia to come out with one at 6am I`m suer you can guess how that conversation went...

Call me and we`ll plan a meeting spot...(727) 420 4218.

And I don`t care who knows my phone number....the govt. tracks us by following the private GPS`s. Why else would they allow a multi million program into civilian life.....things that make you go mmmmmmmmmmmm

Under pressure,

Paid staff from a mega conservation organization plans events during the week. They get paid for this stuff. We finally got the Tampa Bay event moved to a Sat. after three years of trying. I know this makes helping out tough...if you can do it, we can sure use the help. It's also a great time and way to scout out those real productive redfish, snook and trout hidey holes...

Limey Chris, Had not heard of your misfortune. Seems bearings took a bead on our troops all over the state before last sat. Cntry141iq lost a torsion axle the same way on the Friday before. You missed a terrific experience.

BIG D...some of these events get enough money from the state(grants..and I don't mean guys with grey beards)that some helpers(or all) should get paid for these efforts. I bet if everyone was to be paid, no trash would be existing for the next year.

i was raised in the backwaters of matlacha ill try to take off work its a great place caught my biggest snook there

Guys n Gals,

They need only 3 or 4 of us to make this a success. Guess there are three airboats from Lee County signed up to help. If you're able, please send Jessica or me a note and let us get your contact info. Thanks..

The launch site will be the Matlacha Park Ramp, 4577 Pine Island Road @ 8am

DAVE ! JESSICA CALLED ME SHE WOULD CALL ME IF NOT ENOUGHT DOWN THERE ! SAID SARA WOULD CALL FOR HER DEAL CLOSE HERE !I AM IN THE CIRCLE ! THANKS

Limey, HarryTFirefighter has to work on Feb. 07, so he can't make the Matlacha event. He'll be at the Tampa Bay effort, I think. I'll be glad to meet with / ride with you. Maybe at O'Neill's Marina?? I can leave my truck there.

See there ya go again with the local knowledge. McNeils marina :dontknow:

T`ll ya what I`ll be in the vicinity of the ramps by 7.30 and I`ll give ya a call.........

Limey,

For a Pinellas guy, you sure seem lost all the time

O'Neill's Marina is located at the foot of the Pinellas Point Drive / Skyway Lane Exit on I-275 South. It's the last exit heading south in St. Pete....before you get to the Skyway Toll Booth. Take the exit, look right and you'll see the O'Neill's sign. I'll be there at 5:30 am on Feb. 07.

Dude, we called that F@g Park when I was building docks. But I know the marina too. Any hoo. I`m guessing ya wanna ride down with me. Cool. I`ll be there at 5 30 am. Bring coffee

Thanks to all of you who have epxressed interest in helping on Feb 7!

Since this is our first time working in the area, we're going to keep it fairly small. If it goes well, we'll plan another one, and definately do it on a weekend to make it easier for more folks to participate.

But since this is our first go-round in this area, I only need about a handful of airboats.

Got a couple from the county and DEP, so it would be great if we could get 2-3 more airboats from FAA.

Looks like Cptn Dave will be coming down from Tampa Bay (which will be great since he's done these before), but it would be terrific if there were 1 or 2 other "locals" that wanted to help out, that way folks from further away wouldn't have to trailer their boats all the way down to Lee County.

So Stretch -- please touch base with me -- it would be great if you could come out, since you're local AND you know the waters so well!!

How about it? Anyone else closer want to come out and help??

Thanks again!

PS - Kevin Lollar (Ft, Myers News Press) is going to be coming out with us too. He already knows that FAA has been a grat partner on these things, but now he'll get to see you guys "in action".

im not gonna have my boat back by then  but i wouldnt mind ridin with anyone i know the waters pretty well i like to think i do alot of fishin used to camp back in there when i was little. i only live a few miles out so if anyones goin i might catch a ride
