oil pressure???

Well folks I put a new oil pressure gauge in and it seemed to be working fine, 40-50psi and then while out on the water it dropped all the way to 15psi no matter what the rpms?? do you think I have a faulty gauge or bad coincidece and the oil pump took a dump on me?? I have a 220gpu with 520 gitso heads, and holley 750 carb

That’s not to good. Either your oil is getting to hot and is thinning out due to temp or your oil pump pressure bypass valve is bleeding of oil pressure or your bearing clearances are to excessive. What weight oil are you using and how long does it take for the pressure to drop. After the motor cools off does your oil pressure comes back? I owned an old wore out 220GPU that ran two years with 15lbs of oil pressure on AreoShell. So I ran 60w Valvoline and it added around 10lbs of pressure and would hold 20 to 25lbs but that’s only a band-aid to another problem.

I would look for a restriction in the fitting on the motor, might have some carbon in it.
