oilpan

yes,

a couple of chevies on this board have starved for oil and blown when running high rpm. The oil can't drain back fast enough at high rpm for the stock pan.

Go with a simple open pan the baffled pans don’t work well in an airboat. The cheapest and best deal is a Summit Moroso combo. It’s 10 /34’’ deep and holds 8 quarts and comes with a high volume pump and pick up. I do prefer the Milodon pan because they come anodized and don’t rust. When you buy a Moroso metal oil pan you will spend hours cleaning the welding splatter and rust out. The milodon just needs to be washed out and you can bolt it on. So find a pan that holds at least 7 quarts and install a high volume pump and the correct pick up.

Is this some thing I need to put on my boat with the ZZ4 it turns 5200 rpm
and if I do need I change the pump out to or just put on the biger pan with extended pick up ?

Turning 5,200RPM you will be fine unless you run it at that RPM for long periods of time. I also know you keep your water temp where it needs to be. There is a large difference in the amount of oil moved thru a motor between 5,000RPM and 7,500RPM. Turning 5,200 is within the stock oiling systems capabilities. That is one of many reasons why so many airboat manufactures like using the 2 to 1 or 2.38 ratio boxes because the engines turn less RPM’s and put less of a demand on the oiling system. Your iron head Vortec is an anvil under the conditions you are running. That is my favorite crate motor and about the only one I like. However when you want more performance or start turning more RPM’s I would strongly recommend an oiling system upgrade.

I have a question for you I have a 7 qt oil pan with a high volume pump and was out running this weekend and noticed that I had 60 lbs of oil pressure at 3500 rpm then when I would speed up to 38 to 4000 then the oil pressure would go to 30 psi and then very up and down the hole time i'm running never going below 30 psi could this be from the oil I'm running water temp never goes above 150 deg I'm running 10w 30 just to brake in the engine

For the bearing tolerances I usually run in an airboat that oil is too thin. What did you set up your main and rod bearing clearance at? Unless you ran em tight that oil is too thin!

I did do some performance up grades as you suggested Cran 1.6 roller rockers and a MSD distributor with the spring kit but 5200 is all I need and the boat does every thing I want so I see no need to twist it any harder.

my mains plasti gauged out at .0010 on all and the rear main was.0025
the rods where .002 i used red plasti gauge got good presure and when I'm running if I nail it the presure drops to about 30psi then goes back up to 60 or 70 psi and verys up and down should i use thicker oil
