Met moodfood & Skeeter at the Geneva post office today, here's the shipping results:
  • 44 boxes
  • 916.6 lbs.
  • $1163.00 postage & handling
Thanks to mood for some last minute packaging details and Bobby Fleckinger for picking up the shipping bill.

Based on the fun we all had, I bet Operation Airboat IV will be even bigger...I can't wait. Once again....thanks to everybody.

Edited to correct the box count.

I think the sharks at the USPS should have to ship packages to our military forces abroad for FREE ! What the f...., these are the people that are
allowing us all to sleep safe at home in our beds at night.

Good thing I ain't in charge. There'd be some changes come tomorrow morning.

It was 44 boxes total. All of these boxes were well stuft. The weight was not as much as last year... it seemed
like more though. It was better quality stuff sent this time FOR SURE.

We kept these two ladies busy for a couple hours. It was a cool day and they ended up having to turn on the
air conditioning because they were working up a sweat.
I can tell ya, I had a hard time pushing that cart up the ramp by the loading dock. After that it was their deal all the way.

Rick & Skeeter came by and helped with the customs forms. THANKS TO A1MUDPUPPY for filling out
90% of that blasted form! We just had to put in some numbers and check a box, then sign them.

total_postage.JPG

The total to get this entire truck load of GOOD STUFF over to the other side of the planet. 85% of this stuff
went to servicemen in IRAQ, about 5% to some service members in other surrounding Arab countries,
and 10% to troops in Afghanistan.

THANKS TO BOBBY & DIAMONDBACK FOR GENEROUSLY COVERING THE POSTAGE AGAIN THIS YEAR!!!

** A BIG THANKS SHOULD GO OUT TO EVERYONE! **

Thanks to everyone who helped make this happen...it's a really good thing that you all made happen!

As for the postage Ken, I'm pretty sure that the USPS only charges to get them to New York where they make the rest of the trip to the APO address free....I could be wrong but it used to be this way. So 44 boxes for $1,163 isn't bad IMO.

It still would be nice for it to be free, at least it is on the soldier's end.

Actually starting in March the PO has a box ,we think will work, and its free and 12.95 priority shipping no weight limit.

What Blackpowderscout said PLUS.... Active duty servicemen can send letters for FREE. As I understand it, these care packages we made will start to be in the hands of the troops in about a week-and-a-half. That's friggin' miraculous!

And the flat rate box Skeeter mentioned - the Postoffice discounts if you are sending a care package to our troops. The flat rate box which is normally $12 goes down to $10 (approx) if it's an APO address.

I understand what y'all are saying about the Posties doing their money grab. But to tell the truth, I really wish other branches of the gov't made an attempt to run their offices more as a business. Starting to see that at the D.O.T. I changed addresses the other day on my DL and did it online. less than a week later the new license arrived in my mailbox. That's a BIG step forward - and the post office is TRYING to be more business-like. That means they gotta charge money. No problem from here.
