Operation Airboat(sorry, I know it's cheesy)

Now that I see that the turn-out for the Melbourne Run is stacking up to be good, I'd like to encourage everyone who wishes to participate to help me put together some care packages for our soldiers and marines overseas.
I've found a website that lists soldier's APO/AE addresses(that's the mailing address for you when you aren't in the country anymore) who have requested their names to be put on a list for care packages. Many of these men and women are senior NCO's and officers who then distribute the packages amongst their soldiers.
I'm hoping to get enough donations to put together several nice packages with assorted items that these AMERICANS can use and enjoy.

Here's is a list of thing's we used to like to get or wished we could get when I was deployed...

Beef Jeky / Baby Wipes(very useful)
Multi Tools / Hard Candy
Books/Magazines / Drink Mixes(w/sugar pre mixed)
Disposable Camera / Small Hand Tools(hammer, screwdrivers)
CD's/DVD's(No War flicks) / LETTERS FROM KIDS
Laundry detergent / Calling Cards(120 min., its overseas)
Cereals / *Ladies, anything a woman could use*

Also, we will have to have postage for these packages. I will be more than willing to pack them and ship them however, I will need help with the postage.
If you can't or don't want to participate that's fine, still show up and take a ride with some great people and have a good time.
If any one has questions that they would like to TALK to me about, PM me for my contact info and I'll be more than glad to answer question OR TAKE SUGGESTIONS!

THANK YOU FOR YOUR TIME..... ADAM WETHERINGTON

Blackpowderscout,

I'll start working on the letters!

Been there done that!

I was stationed in the "Med" for seven months while being a "bubblehead"/fast attack nuclear powered submarine in the Navy! Probably only seven letters in that time!

I personallyknow what it means to hear from the homefront praising the hard work being done to protect our freedom that i do so much enjoy!

I have been doing some thinking about this project and I'm hung up with a question. I know some of you have said you would donate some money to help cover postage but I'm wondering what you wish me to do with any extra (if this issue should even arise).

I can return it the donors or I can donate to this site for site support or whatever everybody feels is best. I need feedback with this one. I DON'T
WANT TO KEEP MONEY!!!!Whatever isn't used will go somewhere where it can be used for the benefit of the group if no one requests otherwise.

My goal is to send at least 10 GOOD packages. I see no reason why this isn't achievable, in fact we will probably exceed this. When I say good, I'm not saying that every item on the list is in every box. But as long as each box has an assortment of items along with letters of support then we will be great.

If any one thinks they have anything to add to the possible items, by all means add it. Just use common sense though, some things are illegal to ship over there. :D

Hey as far as I am concerned if it is close don't worry over it. If there is enough extra just buy some more stuff and send it.

My wife is a 5th grade teacher in Davenport and she is having her class all write letters to include. That should be very interesting and enjoyable reading!!!! :D

Can they use some of those plastic bins? I get them at Walmart for only a couple dollars and they are handy. About the size of a (boot) shoebox and come with a lid. I was thinking of putting my item donations in one or two of those things and handing off the bunch.

I'd guess that boxes and bins are all over the place since everything over there comes in a package of some sort. Would I be wasting my time and money on a few of those bins?

matt.

It's hard to say, but I'll be honest, they'll probably find a way to use it.

That size description is pretty close to the size we need to strive for. Maybe a little bigger but not much.

Matt, that's actually not a bad idea now that I think about it more. The only issue would be shipping it. I think we'd still put the plastic boxes in a cardboard box of some type for security purposes.

My wife's students finished their letters today. They are very good reading :D :D .

There is one kid who loves airboats. My wife says he won't stop talking about them and he actually drew a pretty good picture of one to include with his letter!

Adam,
Write me a brief desciption of the ride with contacts & particulars & I'll send it out on my e-mail list across Florida. Should have a good turn out. You may want to contact the Brevard County airboat club for help.

Hey Scout,

Are there name(s) to address these letters to?

Seems more personal and valued more to me. Or a unit number instead of just a "to whom it might concern" type letter...

Building the care package as well as the letter this weekend!

Think I'll also offer a free airboat ride to any soldier, sailer, airforce or guard personnel who make it here while on "leave" or after "honorable discharge"! Including contact number with letter.

Now that would be an incentative to bring their butts home from that "rat-infested, sheet-head" hellhole of a place!!

Basket....10-4. There are some members of my unit deployed right mow to the 'Ghan. I'll PM you with one their names. If anyone wants to have any names of these individuals let me know and I'll get it to you. The reason I'll give you these individuals is they are from Florida so if you want to meet them later you have a better chance.

OR...you can go to the website below and look at the list of names there. This is where I will be drawing the names from in order to ship the majority of the stuff. Just let me know the name so I can get the mailing address right!! http://www.anysoldier.com/

Adam: I got your name right this time. Exactly what size box would you want to ship in. I will bring a few to store in also. I have a friend who owns a box company and he will donate to this thing also in free boxes.
so be specific and I will get as close as possible to the size and the number will be easy.

CNTRY...Off the top of my head I can't remember the size but they look like oversized shoe boxes. If you put 2 shoe boxes together flat and then 2 more on top thats basically whay the box size is. My mom works for Walmart and she would always get them from there when they were through stocking shelves.
