Folks,
While this is a dated post, it is still no less offensive. If you want to know who the anti's are, read this post. This person Chairs the Sierra Club Florida committee on Wetlands & Water. This was posted on Adventure Outpost's website.
Did we mention we must watch the paddle sport folks?
Think she wants to be reasonable?

Folks,
I ask that you remove the comments from Sierra Club's Karen Orr as listed on your "environmental page," referring to airboats as terrorists and related comments on airboat sound that have no basis in science.
As an active sportsman, environmentalist and conservationist, I find Ms. Orr's remarks inaccurate, deceitful, mean and I'm greatly offended by such outrageous remarks.
Airboat and ORV sportsmen have lead the way for the protection of the environment in Florida for the last 60 years. We continue to do so via waterway clean ups, non native vegetation removal, search & rescue (of which we have removed many a lost canoe/kayaker), habitat protection and charitable events and responsible outdoor recreation, just to name a few activities.
Just in the past month, airboat clubs state wide have conducted waterway clean ups upon the Kissimmee Chain of lakes, (headwaters to the Glades) with 5,200 lbs of documented trash removed, showed in force on the Winter Haven chain of lakes & removed a few more tons of trash, conducted a clean up upon the St. Johns River & Lake Jessup, upon Lake George removing among other things, an Oldsmoble car from Nine Mile Point, upon the Suwannee River and in the Everglades, just to name a few events. So allow me to inquire, has Ms. Orr participated in similar terrorist events lately?
The vast majority of airboat-sportsmen are fully supportive of the recent legislation requiring automotive style mufflers upon airboats. In fact, it was the members of the Florida Airboat Association that insisted the Florida Fish and Wildlife Commission to rewrite the rules to include mufflers. We also wrote an airboat "Code of Ethics" http://www.citrusairboat.org/codeofethics.html to govern our operation.
While more folks must become involved in the protection of our natural resources, promoting involvement via lies is not the way to do this. Since Ms. Orr is full of energy, perhaps she should join us on our next lake clean up and terrorize some pollution, where her energy will do some good for the environment.

The Florida Airboat Association is an umbrella statewide sportsmen organization of airboat related businesses, organizations and clubs. We actively promote safe boating while protecting our natural resources. The FAA members have a long tradition as leaders in conservation, humanitarian aid and protection of Florida's native habitats by both word and action of it's members.
The members of the Florida Airboat Association received United States Congressional recognition in 2005 for their resolve in volunteer rescue efforts of hurricane Katrina victims.

Traps Lay Siege To Life Under Sea
Crew Untangles Creatures In Derelict Devices
By YVETTE C. HAMMETT
Airboats fanned out from Williams Park about 8 a.m. in search of derelict crab traps, difficult to find on a windy day with less-than-optimum tides.
Still, the 22 volunteers from the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office, the Southwest Florida Water Management District, Florida Airboat Association and others managed to gather 73 abandoned traps and document how many live and dead creatures were in each.
"They found 57 live blue crabs, 29 stone crabs, 13 spadefish, nine sheepshead and four dead blue crabs," said Jamie Cataldo, of Tampa Bay Watch, the group organizing the roundup.

Alachua County Commissioners

Dear County Commissioners:
It is important for the health, safety and welfare of citizens and wildlife that mufflers be required on airboats.
*
Airboat noise is a constant source of torment that can negatively impact the health and welfare of humans and wildlife.
*
Inadequately controlled airboat noise presents a growing danger to the health and welfare of human and animal populations.
*
Many Americans are affected with some hearing loss and that impairment can be at least partialyl attributed to damage from
exposure to airboat noise.
*
Airboat noise can lead to sleep loss, psychological and physiological damage and disruption of normal living activities.
*
Airboat noise exposure can be linked to increased risk of cardiovascular disorders, learning deficits in children, stress
and diminished quality of life.
Please require mufflers on all airboats.
