Senator,

Please consider my request for your vote of support on SB 1958.

This is a very important piece of legislation for my family. We use our family airboat for recreation and as a teaching tool for Florida citizens and visitors alike.

This legislation will help make all airboats safer, less annoying to others and it will afford us the same rights of due process under our laws that all other motor vessels currently enjoy.

Thank You for considering my request.

Capt. Dave Markett

Airboaters,

This is a chance to make your voice heard. The FAA airboat bill is scheduled for its first Senate vote tomorrow or Friday. Please consider writing to the senators listed above and voicing your personal opinion.

This is admittedly not our perfect bill, but it will accomplish three things in my opinion.

1) It will make the requirement for mufflers on all airboats a matter of clear law. Generally quieter airboaters will benefit all of us. The fewer folks who hear our boats running -- the better.

2) It will maker it safer for all of us to run the marsh by requiring all airboats to display flags ten feet above the bottom deck. This would have eliminated a hair raising experience for me last week in Dead River when another airboat rounded a curve on the wrong side coming my way.

3) It will provide us some degree of protection under the law from a local or county government taking discriminatory action against airboaters. It will carry the weight of one of the most politically feared word in our language -- Discrimination.

Not a perfect bill by any stretch - but, I think we are better off with it than without it.

Just heard from Swampjet - he who spent the night on the side of US 19 last night with a destroyed trailer spindle - that our bill passed the Senate's first reading / vote today. Celebrate a little. One more vote there - then it's on to the House for our next battle.

Folks: Please Support the Bills & WRITE LETTERS!!!!!!

Dave,

Thanks for the post. Have been very busy putting the Proclamation event together for Friday. Sent out Press releases today. Should be a very positive event for our interests & the Governor & his Cabinet.

You are right this Bill is not what we started with. However it will still provide us with a modest degree of protection. From our efforts this year, there are many elected officials who have stated we need to address the vessel discrimination issues at the county level next year because there are various other issues the counties are doing to many types of vessels that is NOT ENFORCEABLE. There should be a study done on these issues before the 2007 session.

If we did not hire Bonnie, we would not be in this fight, nor have a voice at the table for the coming studies. Rome was not built in a day and nor will we have a Silver Bullet for one shot. We are having base hits, are learning and playing the game, and becoming a well trained team. Results will be produced over time.

Happy hunting,
PW

just wanted to add my THANK YOU! to what's been posted.

It was great to hear Senator Aronberg talk so glowingly about airboaters and how we are doing the right thing. He said that "no one is completely happy with this bill" but that's the essence of compromise up here.

I believe Friday will be a great day up here:
we will have our Resolution of commendation from the Gove/cabinet

Senator Aronberg will wait until we get to the Senate gallery and then he will take up our bill and ask the Senate to recognize and thank our volunteers for their efforts in the wake of Katrina...they will stand and the entire Senate will give them a standing ovation....

then the bill will pass the Senate and be on its way to the House!

I can't tell you have many other lobbyists know about this bill....how many staff people and legislators know about FAA. We have come charging onto the landscape in a way few associations are able to do in one year.

I am so proud to represent you.
Bondo

Thank you for protecting the only thing that keeps me in Florida. Good job. Did you make the mod's needed to the bill to appease the people who were concerned about the exhaust loop hole.

Thunder,

There is no "exhaust" loophole just as there is no "Gun Show" loophole. BTW, Elvis & Kennedy is dead too.

There are many folks who are clueless as to what's going on. They speak, the media prints, but they never look to see what the wording is. You have to have a hot button to complain about. Whether it's true or not is another issue.
The person who harps this message is one of the regular anti's.

As a user group, we MUST quiet our boats down & reduce complaints . We must be the ones leading this effort as the anti's simple solution is "Ban it!" If we have folks who try to skirt the muffler rule, if they need a few tickets to become educated, so be it.

As long as we continue to quiet our vessels down in good faith, we will continue to make friends. If not, we will go back to the "rednecks in the closet" image and in the not too distant future become extinct, just like the net fishermen. The future is in OUR HANDS. Lets make the most of it.

Thanks to all who are in the trenches for the cause. I think a small celebration is definately in order. Can't wait to log on Friday to see the rest.

BigDaddy,Gatorstick,Bondo:

E-mails sent. Kinda "flip-a-coin" to decide whether to support the bill or not!

I feel this is in all the airboaters of Florida best interest. Bondo has made our voice been heard and I think that may scare the crap out of the "anti's"! (They better be scared cause I don't think this lady will let-up when it comes to supporting our cause! :D

Wish we could be there tomorrow to hear the recognition that our own Sniper and BigKavr hopefully get!

Southern Airboat as well as the FAA has been heard in the state capitol!

Good job everyone.
