I stuck a regular rudder on my little boat to use for now it works but doesn't respond near as well as when the palm beach style rudder was on there and if I get in a hard spot it sure as heck will not move my boat around to get me out . How in the heck do ya'll get by with out the palm beach rudder??????

them others suck if you will pardon my French

what the difference in the 2 rudders. I don't know what pb rudder looks like do you have a pic of the 2 rudders

Josh,

Palm beach style is like what was on Buds boat

As I would understand it the Pb style rudders are longer which increase the amount of air that is deflected when turned vs the shorter regular rudders, so to be able to equal the amount of air deflected by Pb rudder you have to put 2 regular rudders on the boat. Just as you will not go anywhere if you don't push enough air, you wont be able to turn very well if you can't turn enough air either.

yep the PB is about 6" longer then the one on there right now was just venting , I can't understand why anyone would want to change to anything other then a PB :D

Thats the one complaint I had when I tried my new boat out before reriging it. The 2 airfoil rudders do not have enough authority because they are too short front to back. They are vertical with no cutaways but are way too small for my 11'6 footer with O-360 on it. Ill be looking for some real rudders when I get her running after paint and etc.

I had a 10' PB Style boat for my kid years back, a Franny Taylor fulldeack with a new 90 HP GPU and the big single rudder. With him on it he went anywhere the big O-540 boats went and some places they couldn't. No electrical system and 10 gallon tank. The kid weightd maybe 90 pounds soakin wet at the time. Was a sight to see. :)

Them big single rudders do work well, but so do properly made dual rudders.

Scotty

THOSE KLANKY DOUBLE RUDDERS ARE FOR " CLAPPING TOGETHER " SO WHEN THERE STUCK THEY CAN KLANK TOGETHER TO GET THE ATTENTION OF A SINGLE RUDDER BOAT TO COME BACK AND GET THEM..

HEY WHITEBEAR CHECK OUT THE HAMMANT AIRFOIL RUDDERS. THEY ARE GREAT AND 4 FOOTERS ONLY COST 300. THAT IS WHAT MOST MANUFACTURES SELL THEM JUNK FOAM FILLED FOR.I WENT FROM FOAM FILLED TO THE HAMMANT AIRFOIL AND COULD NOT BELIEVE THE DIFFERENCE. MY DADS NEW BOAT HAS 3 FOOT AIRFOILS BY HAMMANT AND I CAN MOVE THE STICK AND MONVER THE BOAT WITHOUT GIVING ANYMORE THROTTLE.

Heres whats on the little boat Woody.

Don't know who made them, decent craftsmanshift but they sure werent meant for airboat rudders. LOL

I may make my own set after Im riding the boat. I have looked and can't find the rudders I want. Nothing against Hammant but it seems everyone is cutting the notch at top and botton with a shear instead of a saw. Its quick and cheep but I like rounded cuts on my rudders, not straight cut corners.

Maybe Ill slide by and see what Wade and Doug has later today.

those rudders hammet donated for the auctions where really nice :!: great quality work

but right now I think I will keep a eye out for some spare PB rudders

AS GOLD SAID THE AIRFOIL WADE AND DOUG MAKE ARE TOP NOTCH.THE REASON I BUY FROM THEM IS THEY MAKE THEIR RUDDERS AIRFOIL OR FOAM FILL PLUS THEY MAKE THEIR OWN TANKS. TOP NOTCH WORK . AND FOR THAT TIM FOLEY BOAT YOU HAVE ALL YOU NEED IS 3 FOOTERS LIKE WHAT IS ON MY DADS BOAT.I KNOW THAT BOAT PRETTY WELL ,AND JOHN'S TO. I HAVE KNOW JOHN AND JODIE .

WHITE BEAR YOUR BOAT IS A TIM FOLEY HAUL AND IF I REMEMBER CORRECTLY THEY HAVE HIS AIRFOIL RUDDERS ON IT . YOU WILL BE MUCH HAPPIER WITH THE ONES HAMMANT MAKES.WADE MAKES A GREAT SET OF RUDDERS.IF YOU WANT PM ME AND LET TAKE A PEEK AT MINE,AND IF YOU HAVE TIME LET YOU RUN MY 4 CYC.BOAT WITH THEM ON IT.YOU WILL NEED THE 4 FT ONE TH OWE. BECAUSE THAT WHAT IT LOOKS LIKE YOU HAVE NOW.

I have pre-stressed (non foam filled) airfoil 4' rudders now. Like I said, nice craftsmanship just not much authority. I still got a ways to go before I take them off though. Wanna get the boat in the water and running then I'll address the rudders as they reach the top of the priority list. I may even make my own rudders since I dont like the shape of most of the new stuff I see.

I usually can find time (morning til lunch is best) to go look at things, looks give me ideas and they sometimes reinforce my own ideas. So yes, Id like to see your rudders. Tell me where to go look at them. Call me 321-693-1634.

Thanks Woody.
