Please HELP newcomer with propeller selection

I just recently was given a 15' aluminum hull airboat with polymer bottom, steel cage. I was told the motor is a 280 h.p., 6 cylinder continental airplane engine, left hand rotation. It had a 2 blade 72 x 38 sensenich wood prop, need to replace due to dryrotted. Need help in choosing a good composite prop for it, and any information where i could find maybe a used prop. New to the airboating so I would like to do it right the first time.

The old wood prop on it, was it a wide blade or a narrow blade, what rpm did the motor turn up the old prop, and where on the motor are the intake tubes on top of the motor or the bottom? Just trying to figure out what you got and need.

the old prop was a wide blade, intakes are on the bottom of the engine, and don't really know what the rpm's were because the end of prop flew off the first time i tried to get on plane, but i did turn it up on the trailer a couple of times and i believe it got up to about 2600 to 2700 rpm's.

Sounds like you got a 470 or 520 continental. Personally I would run a powershift signature series, 72" with the medium hub or 74" with the long hub if you have the clearance.

This is the place for parts, new or used. The site is sponsored by Powershift Props, great bunch of people. They make a great prop if you are considering composite. Sensenich is also a good company, wood or composite. There is also whirlwind, terminator, FL Air-Props, Warpdrive, and some others I can't remember. Just call each company, they will be able to help you with prop selection. If the carb is underneath, you have an aircraft motor. There should be a metal tag on the motor stating what it is. If not, post where you are located, there are lots of airboaters and maybe a mfg. all over where somebody will look at you boat a tell you what you got. It was given to you? What a deal. Welcome to airboating, another victim catches the fever. Also, join a club, we need all the support we can get right now to keep airboating alive.
