Poly for a better price.

Been checking the prices for poly and found it in a surprising place. The trucking industry!! Dump trucks use it to make materials slide out better. $26 per/ft for 8' wide X 1/4" thick sheets long as you want it.
 
Better be sure it’s UHMW virgin polymer. Recycled is crap and if it comes in a roll it won’t last long on the coast. Just my $.02
 
Wish I had time to explain the differences and cost of each. Hell I'm probably the reason horn bailed with 3/8 sold and found 1/4 inch spots.
QC is not not found at all in a dump truck bed and often under an airboat once it's being attached. Who cares about a 1/8 inch ripple, except airboaters?
 
Hi. Look pleas. This airboat was built from a same material. First reason of damage - bad quality of materials and second reason -freeze.

Boat from video was build from good quality materials. During running to berth accelerator was damaged and boat was collision with stone wall. That guys building boats from HDPE (High Density PolyEthylene).

My be I can give answer more later, because I used HDPE for guard my airboat bottom. But note I am not planed dry run.
 
I disagree on the recycled stuff. I know numerous people running it that have had the same or better luck with that than the virgin stuff. I recently replaced my virgin blue iron with black regrind (repro) and I can tell just by handling it that it is more dense and higher quality than the stuff I took off. but that's just my 2cents.
 
Couldn't find repro in 3/8" so am buying virgin from classic. Bolts for it are a concern of mine. Stainless carriage heads or what?? Waiting until summer to install.
 
We used stainless countersink type machine screws with a Phillips head then on the other side put a stainless washer and stainless poly lock nut.
Purchased the hardware from Diamondback along with a countersink took to allow the head of the screw to be recessed on the poly.

Works great

Someone on hear a while back mentioned they used brass nylock nuts to prevent galling. Haven't tried it myself but this is my 3rd year of fishing with my poly and it will have to be changed this summer.
 
Makes good sense. I don't plan on changing it but just for retightning it they shouldn't corrode as bad. Good tip and thanks.
 
I’m probably the one that talked about the brass nylocks. I put them on my last poly change 3 years ago. No problem with corrosion to date. Almost exclusively salt water. Poly has taken a beating though. Like OEG I’ll be changing mine soon. I will restate than running where we fish, the recycled poly doesn’t last worth a crap. When you spend as much time, money and effort to change poly, do it right.

If you knew a guide from our area Captain Herb Wilkerson He passed away a few weeks ago. The Gulf Hammock Fishing Club is having a celebration of life for him Saturday starts at 11:00am all are welcome.
