Polymer install opinions

I have finely done it. I just got my new Polymer and am ready to do the install. Just a question thrown out for opinions.
After I get the old stuff off I would like to put some type of protection on the bottom before I install the new poly. I am thinking of using steelflex. I am a little concerened about the fact that steelflex is slippery and will it cause problems with the poly tryng to move? I would like to use something to protect the aluminum before I install the poly. Any sugestations would be welcome. I will be screwing the polimer down with machine screwss and locknuts.

Glad to hear you are getting that done Tim. I know you needed it.

If there is any way I can come down there and help, I will.

:)

You got some work ahead of you welding all the old holes shut and all. I'm pretty good with a grinder. I wish I could help you out.

You gotta get it done before the next ride! Looks like we're coming down your way. :)

Bravo,
Go get some regular steel-flex 2000, and put in on your aluminum before the polymer.
That will help keep corrosion down under the plastic.

It should cause you no grief later.

Moose,
Most polymer fasters I have seen are just countersunk about 1/16" below the running surface of the sheet.

BTW Bravo,
If you ned help getting that sheet installed, well... You got my number.
Call me. I'll come help ya.

Hope you know that just goes with-out saying, but I figured I'd say it anyway.

This is probably overkill for your application , but we use something like marine-tex ( white polymer sealant ) and coat the whole bottom of the hull . It seals all the bolt holes and keeps all the sand and silt from building up between the UHMW and the hull . Then we thru bolt the UHMW using elevator bolts w/ nylock nuts . Makes for a bullet proof bottom .

Thanks all for the offers of help. I never had a doubt that if I needed help all I would have to do is ask. That is why this is such a great place. Thanks for the suggestions. Now I have motivation also the Feb. ride. Trying to get it done by the middle of Jan would have been tough but I can shoot for Feb and most likely get-er-done.
