Power Options for a 16 footer...

I was looking @ a (used for sale) 16ft X 8ft Diamondback that had its motor & belt drive removed. Originally it had a big block, with a 2 to 1 ratio. My question is, is it going to take a big block to run this boat effectively?? Or would a high horsepower high torque small block do the trick?? How hard is it to convert the motor stand from a belt drive to a gear box?? Last but not least, if a big block is the answer, does a belt drive go better with a big block, and a gear box better with a small block?? I just like the idea of a gear box beause of the options of ratios to pick from........

I have a 13ft. Lazer Hull, with full set of metal work, rudders, tank, and all.. Everything thing except motor, prop, and seats. Motor-stand set up for e-model continential, but can be easly converted to a small block direct drive, and will run extremly well. 2400.00 w/ out trailer, 2600.00 w/ trailer.. E-mail if interested! GREAT CONDITION

Well JL it depends on your intended use for the boat. I believe a a high torque smallblock with a gearbox is ok for most applications. WATERTHUNDER has what sounds like a good combination at a reasonable price. I would love to buy one from him and get him to tune it right of course I would want the mad horsepower model go figure huh. I may get one one of these days. Well thats my input. good luck

How much HP does the mad HP engine have?? I need a big boat to haul a lot of people to go fishin, froggin, bow fishin, etc. I want to be able to go just about anywhere with 4 or more people.
