Powershift Hubs?

NightRider

Well-known member
Does anyone know the different sizes (lengths) the powershift hubs come in. I currently am swinging a 72" prop, but would like to go bigger by just changing the hub if possible.

NightRider,
IF you have a 72" signiture, then you have a medium hub. To go to a long hub will give you 74".

quick question, I have a 72" 6 blade warp on a 0540, would I be happier with a powershift prop,mine is really noisy,but boat runs good,thanks, Lee

What is the length of the different hubs? I am swinging that 72" 2 blade on 13' X 7'9 alumitech hull with a 300 upstack. The boat is with Super Dave at present, but I think that I will benefit from the extra length (more push).? Thanks again for all the help, first boat.

NightRider, You will definitely benefit from a long hub, like about 50 lbs of thrust. You are also at the point (300hp) that you could go 3 blade 72" Sig.

Igower,
You will have more push and lower cruise rpm with a Signature series WaterWalker. a 260hp 0540 typically runs a 72", a 290hp does better with a 74" and over 300hp gets a 3 blade.
Now these are averages, so don't everyone beat me up cause we all know every boat is different.

i agree, i went from a 72" two blade to a 78" narrow three blade. it seems i have a lot more push now. more noise too but it pushes enough to where it stopped my boat from porpoising. i have it set to turn the same rpms as my two blade except now i cruise about 300 rpms less and breaks loose on dry ground 250 rpms less. not if its true everywhere but the longer prop with less pitch pushes my boat better than the shorter prop with more pitch.....

Well noted Duckluv,
Everyone must remember that at 74" and @2800RPM you are over 900 FPS tip speed which gets noisy and wears on your tips. More diameter gets more thrust but watch the RPM's.

Swampjet,

How can I tell which hub I have? I bought the prop with the engine and am not sure how to tell the difference.

What does a 2-blade long hub cost?
I have a 3-blade power-plus and think it's too much blade for my motor.

roberti53,
What is your set up? motor ,prop length ,boat length etc. What RPM are you turning ?

Bob

ZZ4 (355hp)
80" 3-blade power plus. set behind the parting line in the hub about 1/8"
8X15' alumitech hull (ice boat, very heavy)
2:1 belt drive.
Will run dry with 2 in the boat.
Only run it up to 4500 rpms
Just curious if the 2 blade would have been better.

OH yea, you are over proped. Drop to a 2 blade long hub (475.oo) and save your 3rd blade for a spare. Best to sell the 3b hub on Airboat Trader or/ and on here.
Another option is to change the belt ratio to a 2.38 or something close to that .

Look on the hub and you should see a series of numbers and letters...I can't remember exactly the order as I don't have mine in front of me but if you have an "M" in front of the serial number it is a medium, "L" for long.

If you have a 72" signature then you've got the medium hub...the blades are all the same length in each series, the hubs are different.

Thanks for catching that Adam, I missed it.
He is right, the serial numbers on the hub will start with a number (number of blades) then a letter, s- small, M- medium, L- long. On a signature set, these would be 70", 72" 74". Then comes the serial number followed by either a M (mounting plate) or C (cover plate).
Hope this helps.
If you need, you can PM me or call me and I'll help get you the right hub.

What kind of engine stand modifications are needed for this new belt drive?
(if a guy all ready had a Franklin belt drive)
