prop adaptor question

Question -

I need to replace one of the threaded studs in my prop adapter. Do I need to have it pressed in (at a mechanic's shop) or can I tap it in with a mallet/hammer and then let the prop bolt pull it in till it's seated????

Other bkg info i(in case it matters)
wood prop, 72LXL32, DD350

Are there any special considerations I need to know about changing a wood prop? This will be only my second time changing a wood prop - I remember some of the tips we got from the Florida Air Prop guy when we got our last prop, but could use a refresher course.

thanks

matt.

Thanks DW - I'm going to have to take the adapter off the flywheel to pound the old threaded collar out.

For the bolts that attach the adapter to the flywheel - what should I torque them to???

matt.

Mood it's been awhile since I've done anything with a DD but I believe the adapter to flywheel bolts take the place of flywheel bolts and torque 65ft/lbs to 75 ft/lbs. They should be the same as the recommended flexplate bolt torques for a 350. Don't take my word alone as I'm sure there are others who are more knowledgeable on your question.

You need to ask waterthunder that one.

prop torque

3/8" (175-225 in-lbs) (15 to 19 ft-lbs)
7/16" (225-285 in-lbs) (19-23 ft-lbs)
1/2" (275-325 in-lbs) (23-27 ft-lbs)
