prop advice

I'm doing a 520 conversion, but i'm going to deck the case 125 thousandths and run high compression pistons (i'm guessing somewhere between 330-340hp finished product) and i'm hung up between a 3 blade Q series and a 5 blade warp drive. it'll be on a 12ft cottonmouth with light rigging and 3/4 cage. between those two props, which would yall say would be the best "bang for the buck" deal?

i'd say that a good 70% of what we run is dry. i know the warp drive is a lot snappier, but the Q series will build more torque. I'm also not too concerned about speed, but just out of curosity, which prop would have the better top end, assuming that they're both 72 in.?

-haha, i know its a touchy subject for some, but lets keep our cool on this one. :argue:

im goin to have to go with the Q series, but im not bashing the warp drive- all props have there own place and time.... but as far as ur curiosity question, once the q series gets spun up all the way, it should be a little faster than the warp drive top end - thats just what i think but i dont own either one but i got friends i ride with that do so i have been around them a little...

i've heard that from a couple people that the Q would have a better top end, but the warp would get you there faster

i forgot to mention resale value. i'll be going to texas by the end of the year for school, and i wont have the time or the place to ride. does one of those props have a better resale value than the other?

i'll basically be building this boat to sell and use as my "college cushion fund"

My Q seems to have more snap than my Warp did, and when you hold the two in your hands you'll see why, the Q weighs probly half what the 5 blade Warp does

really... just by looking at them, you'd think the opposite to be true. i've never weighed the two in comparison, but looking back on the H series that i had, it makes sense. i'm going to check on prices and see what i can put together- i have a $3,500 budget that i'm trying to stay within between the motor and the prop, which after my motor is done... i dont think i'll be able to come close. but... at the same time, i know when JC is done with it, i'll have a jam up motor

I would have to say the Q series if your running that much dry. The warp drive might give you that better snap, but I think the Q series would meet your needs much better on the dry just due to the fact that it's gonna keep building torque. Overall I think you'd be happier with the Q.

CB85, You may need a 3 blade Q . I have afew friends with 300hp 0540's that have the pitch about maxed out on a 2 blade. I let skeeter borrow my 3 blade Q once and he pitched it at the 2 mark at 2900. He is running a similar setup to what you are building but with 8.6 to 1 compression . If you are over 300hp a 2 blade may not be enough unless you go to 74"

I'll chime in...
If and when you get a Warp Drive prop set up right on the right rig it is almost impossible to beat!
It is smooth, it has push and it will give you speed.
It is the Jack of all trades master of none. It is a prop that will do everything OK.
It is the only prop that I have tried that will do everything you ask of it!
You can get props the snap more, you can get props that have more top end, you can get props that have more bottom end torque!
I haven't found one that puts all the things together like the Warp Drive.

Now that is just my opinion, I am not suggesting it is the right prop for your boat.

If you wade through all the opinions on this site you can select a prop that will do what you want, without having to spend in excess of $10,000 like I did to find what works for you!

When they put something besides air inside the other composite props I will try them again!

Rich, Grant is makin me want to call Warp Drive. I really like my Q, but I could go to a gearbox, add a few blades with a Warp, and keep my prop cage and engine stand. :?

If you really are going to make that much power, you might want a 6 blade not 5,other than that its personal preference

sounds like Grant is dialed in.....from what I remember when warps first came out, a few guys took the time to figure them out, and they are still running them down here. I don't know one end from the other on a protractor, so I"m out.

I would go with 72" 3 blade Q.I tried it on my boat as Geneva mentioned. It was great on dry, rocket out of the hole, but flattens out quicker on top end compared to 3 blade H series.

its hard to beat a 72" 6-blade Warp Drive. I am putting one on my new 540, and Im gonna stager the pitch of the blades and see how it preforms!

yea good point skeeter and geneava, i run a 3 blade H series on my 540 and ti pushes good, but back in deer season i slung an edge off ti and borrowed my buddy's Q series blades and it pushed my boat pretty d*mn good... i aint been around or run warp drives a whole lot, but i guess im just partial to sensenich 3 blades cuz i guess thats all i kno the most about... take it easy yall

hopefully i'll be picking the cylinders up from JC tomorrow, then be able to start putting the motor back together over the next week or two, then its crunch time on a prop.
