Prop Change

Well-known member
I am wanting to change from a 6 Blade Warp Drive to a 2 blade prop. I was thinking of a 72" or 74" Sensenich Q Series on my 0540 SV. Has anyone made this change or a change to any other prop that can give me feedback on how they liked or didn't like the different prop.
Thanks,
Johnny

I know 2 guys that have made that change. 520 540 one 5bl one 6 bl the q had alot better snap and picked up a boat lenth in a drag race. They have a funny whistle sound at idle but work good.I heard if you way the warp in a box and the Q the Q is alot lighter?

I have ran everthing u can thing of and I keep coming back to the 2 blade Q love it :D

I just went from a 6 blade turbo hub to the S series superwide. I'm running a small block with a box, Both props have some pro's and con's, The warp drive had better snap ( for my set up) but the superwide has reduced my rpm's - gas consumtion ( only ifin I stay outta the throttle) and is ALOT quieter. Dont know ifin the fact your running an aircraft motor will make any difference but I just sold that warp drive the other day -I love this new prop.

have you got the counter weights on your crankshaft we have had several cranks break after running hollow bladed props we are blaming on harmonics no problems with wood props or warp drives just the hollow bladed ones we think they don't absorb harmonics and it affects the crank jmo. we are putting counter weights back in the motors and it seems to help. good luck

froggigger1,

I think you are correct! I have had the same problem with the hollow props, harmonics are horrible unless you keep the rpms down to the point of wondering why even bother
Haven't owned a Q prop, but some of my running buddies have them...no problems yet, for their sake I hope it stays that way!
My experience with 2 other makes was not good and was damn expensive! One make seemed OK till about 300 hrs of hard running, then the damage started showing up.

I broke a crank running a hollow blade prop and no counterweights after about 150 hrs. After a fresh rebuild started breaking hub bolts due to harmonics. I found out about a harmonic dampener which I bought for about $450.00 and have not had any problems since. The dampener is an faa approved part used in alot of aerobatic planes that have harmonic issues. It will bolt right to a lycoming flywheel but you need to have the aftermarket solid flywheel drilled for it. I am currently running a 3 blade Q series

Thanks for the info I appreciate it. Geneva0550, I sent you a PM asking about that harmonic dampener.

The counter weights are to get rid of the harmonic distortion and they have to be the right weights in the right order. See what happens is one counter weight is bad a back yard mechanic will replace that one counter weight which will not be part of that set. Everything in an aircraft motor comes in a set that is design to work with each other. :D

Geneva, does the dampener you have come from Mark Landoll in Oklahoma? I found some info on the internet about it and from the description it looks like what you have in your picture.
