Hello,
I recently resurrected this airboat from a guy who inherited it from his brother. The boat sat for many years but the engine was wrapped very well so with fresh fluids, a new carb, new hoses, etc it’s alive again.
The question I have is about selecting the best prop for this particular set up. The boat has a 72 inch Sensenich wood prop. The guy I bought it from said that when his brother bought the boat it had a different prop on it but something happened and the brother ended up with the current prop and that it never had the performance that the first prop had. It sounded like the original one broke or something and they found this current prop in a pinch and it ended up permanent. I called Classic Airboats and they were talking about selling me a prop that was cut down from 70 or 72 to fit this setup. I was just wondering what the best option would be to get the most out of this setup. This will be used for duck hunting so speed isn’t as important as lugging power. My two sons and I took the boat out and it seems to run fine as is, we had the boat going 38mph at about 3k rpm.
I was thinking about going to a composite prop and just wanted to get some answers on what difference if any the different lengths and widths and pitches would have.
