Since replacing a 78x50 wood prop with a six blade 76" ivo prop on a 16x7.5' aluminum hull I can not get the rpms up near what I could on the wood prop. The boat is powered by a pretty strong 400 ci chevy with a 2 to 1 belt box. Could get around 5700 with the wood prop and can only get get about 4800 with the ivo twisted 5 turns to the right. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Dude, you've got 6 blades now instead of 2.

The question is, does the boat PUSH as well or better than it did with the wood?

If it does, then great, you don't have to turn the engine as high and that's a good thing.

If you've lost push, then just take some pitch out of the prop until it turns a little more RPM

We're all after thrust; RPM is just a means to get there. Less RPM generally means less noise (good thing), less fuel consumption (great thing) and longer engine life (really great thing) so if your boat is performing as good or better at less RPM now, then that's awesome.

Have you taken it for a ride or are you just running it on the trailer?

I was always told the ivo props fell on their face when runnin dry or sticky stuff. They have a huge amount of movement on the blades as in flexing.

I appreciate the input. I ran the setup on a 16ft airgator and have recently switched to a 16ft GTO and am trying to increase the performance of the boat. I was wondering if I reduced the diameter if this would help. I will probably end up changing props to a powershift or sesinich and could use information about 2 blade veruses 3 blade, width, and diameter.

Most people that I talk to said there is a world of differnce going from a 2 blad to a 3 blade power shift of sesinich should run an 80 in but if you want more snap go with a 78 in
