pros and cons of a cottonmouth

what are the pros and cons of a cottonmouth hull? may buy a 12 foot to put my dd small block on. any info would be great.
 
FL. my first boat was a 13'6 cotton with dd caddy looking back that was a great boat a little heavy but built very well
 
One of the first boats I looked at was a Cottonmouth. It was a nice boat, I wish I could have bought it.

I don't think they've been making them for a while, so a con would be that it's going to be a used hull and may have been repaired a time or two.

Red - I am not sure with who is building them, but you still can purchase them new from Panther/Classic. Maybe Panther has the mold. But they are still in production.

Some of them (maybe all of them) have a trough in the back to catch overwash from stopping to fast. It seems to work well.

In my opinion, I would put polymer on the bottom and 6 to 8 inches up the side just to minimize the wear and tear on the bottom and sides. Even with a nice glass coat job, the marsh grass down here eats at it like sandpaper if you run dry alot.
 
You guys have such a incredible choice for hulls! Aluminum of Fiberglass Fab. of stuff you guys are running would be more expensive up here. Most welders around here don't want to work unless there gettin 100K a year. Next nearest manufacturing sector as far is glass would be the hot tub market where the guys start a $10.00/Hr. Texas manufactures I could probably even fly a hull back. Forida might be tougher but not necesaraly not an option.
 
Cold, one of them will fit in the back of a medium size UHaul van ..... you could fly down here (find a deal, there will be some after Christmas, and you work for an Airline, right?) load it up and take it home. You could get it done for probably around $1000 (transportation) and be on your way with your project, and with a proven hull design. That could save you thousands in the long run, and would be safer too. White Tail airboats in Nebraska would be a lot closer, and less mileage.... another option.

Not tryin to spend your money for you, buddy. Just an idea.

If you wanting a new 12' glass hull, i take a look at the Predator hulls, cotton-mouth is a good hull, but it doesnt compare to the Predator.. He has pictures of them on the member gallieres.. They're great hulls, you would be very happy!! Give him a call!!

I run a 13'6 cottonmouth.

They are still being made by Bobby Jones Sr. in Davenport. It's a good solid hull. It has a bit of slide to it so you need to want that. When running dry, you can notice some small degree of flex to the hull. Handles deep water fine and it does have the trough in the back. I would look into getting something bigger than a 12ft for your motor but thats up to you.

The Predator hulls are built by Bobby's son. They are not the same hull design by any means and as 0470 said, look into them too. Check out the thread running about his new wide hull. That might be a better choice.

You would be making a fine choice with a Cottonmouth though. Nothing that is horrible about it by any means.

The 13'6" cottonmouth held my old stroker just fine. The only problem I had was the rounded nose and side made it easy to stick when bustin floating islands or really big cattails and you settle down in the stuff. It rode fine and did deep water just fine. There are plenty of use done s around outfitted for almost any motor combo you could want. I even thought of getting on efor a dd caddy boat for froggin.
 
Dang Cntry, a Cadillac frog boat? :shock:

My buddy has a 12 foot Trailblazer with a DD 350 small block. It floats fine, and the Cottonmouth has pretty high sides on it too.
