Questions on a 160 hp Lycoming engine

I'm new to this whole aircraft motor thing and had a few questions.. maybe you guys can help.
I had an offer for a 12' boat with a 160 hp Lycoming engine (not sure of the model motor) in it which was recently built. They want to trade for a truck I have, but I was wondering if there are any specific things I need to look for on the motor and what not or if there was anyone in the Ft Lauderdale area I could take the boat to and have them look at it with out getting a biased opinion if they new the person who owned the boat. And what size prop would be the best to run with it? Thanks for your input.

start by having a leak down test done, that will pretty much tell the story, not sure where to take in lauderdale, but some else will chime in who does.
