quiet propeller

Well-known member
Rick put me onto this video and I am intrigued by it, so I decided to post it.

Go to the Panther web site:

http://www.airboats.com/

On the right side you will see a button labeled "video". Right click and "save as" to the desktop or some file.

Beware the file is quite large, almost 28Mb.

I could have put a direct link to it, but read the fine print at the bottom of their page.

Enjoy,

Jim

This is Rick's find!!

thats what my 6 blade turbo warp drive sounds like I just put mufflers on my boat and now I can hear the wind on the prop they are quite

I think Rick can help you with that. Check with him. He has other videos on the home page.

Jim

Yes they are very quiet props.

As I said before not much more noise than a window fan.

CC,
Are you getting the performance you expected?

Now my years may not be the very best but I had no probs hearing the one that sounded like a B29 on takeoff the other day at the St Johns bridge. Started looking up in the air & wife said there itis, it's that little Airboat. :(

That Clip , On the panther is pretty hush but Chuck has one .way more hush than that . I have seen both ,the blade is more hush !I have seen them all .not a expert but just a on looker . Been studying prop noise. for a while. they are people that rite now can meet the standards.Dont under stand ,across the big pond they had these ords for years no problems meeting them over there! Why not us!

Those counter rotator are fairly quite. I have rode and drove one a few times. It handles differently on a 16-17 footer than a big block and belt drive. It moves really well, even in the thick grass, but I just don't like the way it handles.

But the issue is the size of the boat required to place the set up in it. The second set of propellers pushes your motor another 9 to 12 inches forward. The smallest hull length is around a 16 footer. Or at least that is what the fellow that has the boat said Panther told them. And that boat sits way to low in the water for me to feel comfortable. If you want something in the 12 foot range it will not work.

But it is something that the larger boats can go to.

Pat,

Take a look at cchardt's post, the second post in this thread. He has the regular turbo warp with two layers all going in the same direction and he says it is quiet. We hope to have his video soon. That prop is working on the smaller boats.

I am hoping more people will come forward with their quiet ideas. If we can get the noise issues addressed we have Rick to thank for starting this forum.

Jim

I am really happy more people are showing an interest in quiet props :D . My problem is the prop mfg's. Where the HELL are THEY  ??????? We are asking each other what is quiet and how to get them quieter!!!! Dont the mfg's have a stake in all this!!! Its like they do not care. I guess Ill see what Waterthunder comes up with in his private testing and send him some R&D money. At least he is trying and telling us about it,they are not :( .

I gave thunder the video of my boat the other day and he said that he would post it as soon as he can

Several of the manufacturers are advertising quiet props. Arter a quick search, I came up with these and I am sure there are more.

Powershift:

Whirlwind:
http://www.whirlwindpropellers.com/html/airboat/airboat_mb.shtml

Sensenich is advertising their new Q Series Quiet Blade in Airboat World.

Bud Bell and his group over at Classic airboats has come up with a hub system for warp drive blades that allows the props to be stacked or layered. This one sort of looks like a counter rotator, but it is not. It's called a Turbo Warp Drive:
http://www.classicairboats.com/pages/props.html

cchardt on this board has one of these and is trying to get a video posted of the boat. I heard one of these on Sat (thanks to Rick) and it is quiet.

Thanx Jim for the links

I came by the home page last night & the nice ladies at Possum Bluff in one of the pics said something but I couldn't tell what it was :)
So I punched the back button & got bogged down in the pics for no tellin how long.
I've done this before but this time I had Airboat noise in my beanbox to interfere with the beauty of all those Airboats. It was surprising to me that a great many are still with open pipes. Before all the landscape started filling up with the perfect ears that can overhear a 100db TV in a cement house no one hardly ever thought abt it. But some of these Boats I've seen like this look almost like new. :(

Also looking for noise comment on wood prop on 350 with 2.1 gearbox?
The only ones I've ever heard were big blocks with wood props like Olds & Buick & somewhat rackety. We were thimking 3 blade for a boat we're considering but $3k or $1k per blade may be a little too quiet. :)

Thanx Gben

You can barely hear the noise from a wood prop over a gear box 350 if it doesn't have good mufflers. Heard a couple today that just sounded like those inboard jet boats. One even had those stainless straight through mufflers all the airboat mfg's use. LOUD!

Hey CC How do you think that turbo wrap would run with a direct drive 455 olds. I am looking for a new prop soon and those wrap drives sound interesting.

Thanx Red

For you response on the 350 box/wood setup.
We'll be in Ala tomorrow if all goes well running one set up this way. :)

CC

If you read this, too bad abt your engine but was curious as to the difference in performance from your old prop to the new turbo warp prop?

Thanx, Gben

Anyone know if that Panther boat is coming to Nebraska for Tim Bryson's airboat tours in Fremont?

TIM BRYSON ALREADY HAS HIS NEW BOAT IN FREMONT. GET A HOLD OF HIM AND LET HIM TAKE YOU FOR A RIDE.
