racing brakes

Does anyone have a photo of one of the racing airboat brakes?

I have seen lots of photos of some of these racing boats and they have a second pedal. I am assuming it is a brake. Just curious to see how they work.

Don't have a picture but what i saw was about a 2in wide u shaped peace with 2 bolts and 2 brackets at the top like a hinge and a cable so when you step on the peddle the flat side of the metal goes in the water and shoots a 30 ft roster and slows the boat down

Believe it or not the primary purpose of a brake is not to slow the boat down but to keep it from flipping over however they do help slow down. Most airboat flip overs occur when you let off the throttle because the prop thrust is what actually keeps the nose of the boat down. When the boat is doing 80 plus MPH and you let off the throttle you lose that down force on the nose. Then the air hitting the bow causes enough lift to flip the boat over. That’s why you see everyone hit the brake before they let off the throttle because the brake dragging in the water keeps the nose down just like a trim tab will bring the nose down. I will try to post some pictures of the brake on my boat. You need to be careful when building one because the first one I built almost threw me out of the boat when I tested it.

Waterthunder - Not planning to build one myself. Would need a new hull that would be built for that, and I know I don't have time to even think about it. If you do find a picture and post it, add another note so I can look at it.
