radial motorbike

That is way too cool!!!!!!!!

But not for riding. Dang - those rocker covers will be hitting the ground on a bump, or turn. :( If you could ride it... it'd keep you warm on a chilly day!!!!!

VERY COOL eye candy though!!!!

Something a lot of folks don't know is that a Harley Davidson motorcycle engine is just two cylinders of a radial engine. Same crank pin arangement etc. Thats what gives Harley that "Harley" (aircraft radial) sound.

I love radial engines, in fact theres a saying in the flying world that...."Real Airplanes Have Round Engines". Guess that could apply to Jet engines but was meant to refer to Radials.

Radial engines have something in common with the steam engine, and that is that they are a mature technology. Sadly as is always the case, just about the time we perfect something, somebody thinks thay have a better idea and kills off things that work near perfectly. This is why we have Jets now instead of those beautiful throaty Radials on our airplanes. Its also why we have noisy nasty diesel locomotives instead of steam engines too.

Thanks for the image, its a beautiful bike !

Just think a tiny little 600cc CBR or F6 Yamaha will burn a 10th the fuel and perform a hundred times better and not burn 20 quarts of oil.

110 hp Aussie radial ultralight engine is what that is, so I doubt it would offer much better performance than a badded HD engine.

This link has info, pictures, and and audio of those engines.

I doubt it would be that ridable anyway, but it sure is cool!
Nice picture there mwood.

Cool bike, just not as cool as this one!

I'd like to try one of those radials on a 10' one man, PB style 'baby deckover' ...... 8) .

My boy bought a 600 CBR, its fast, loud, obnoxious and looks like something from the Jetsons. Or Starwars. Sure dont look like a motorcycle.

Harley engines were never designed to be the pinacle of anything but style and grace. Lots of Jap junk outperforms them, even some of the 250cc stuff. However nomatter what elose can be said about the rice rockets, they just aint a Harley. Will never be able to measure up in that category. Though the Nips are doing some fairly respectable harley immitations but they just havent figured out how to make the single crankpin engine yet. They got the looks but its all bogus. I do like my 1100cc Shadow though. 48 MPG and its faster than a stock Harley. Id still trade it for a Harley if I could. Just not the Harley inflated price.

Cowboy: That peanut hull looks like it has one of the old McCullouch drone engines on it ! 2-stroke/ 72& 90 HP

I Hear ya Scotty.
That Kawi above is my brothers bike.
His other bike is an 02 Duece.

He never rides that ZX-12, cause he just enjoys the Duece more. It is an awesome motorcycle. FAST and comfortable. A lot more so than it looks.
It will make the jump to hyper space.

I can't think of anything more obnoxious than a hot rodded Harley going up the street, sputtering and backfiring, splitting eardrums as it goes nowhere.

Then again, I think top fuel Harleys are kinda cool.

I wanna ride that radial one time!

Whoops Scotty, I missed the McCullough comment.

That engine is a 90 gpu with A/C jugs installed. Nice little engine.

Those drone engines were pretty darned cool. We had one, but never got around to re-carbing it, and getting it on an airboat. They just had a big mixture knob on them, and ran WAO all the time. (at least ours was like that) It was a 72 horse model.

Speaking of models:

Marylin Monroe had a job assembling them before she was a star.
I saw a Picture of her in a factory, with racks full of them in the background.

Whatta RACK!

Bear, I agree. H-D is all about makin' traditional design work in the modern world, and nobody does it better. The Harley engineers figured out a long time ago that if they moved the crankpins from 62 deg. to 74 deg. seperation they could build a big twin that was actually a pretty smooth runnin' engine, but they would lose 'that Sound'. That 'sound' has sold millions of motorcycles.

Cowboy, a guy named Elmer Trett was from my hometown .... he built and raced top fuel Kawasakis back in the early days, and they went Real Fast and made Huge horsepower numbers. He was a pioneer in Top Fuel drag bikes.
What was amazing about him was that he built bikes that were so powerful he was scared to death of them. I've seen him vomit before a race he was so scared, and then he'd get on one of those 750 hp creations and RUN that thing! He was a very cool guy.

I never knew Marylin Monroe worked on those engines. I bet the ones she touched are collectors items even. Just the parts even !

Talk about bragging rights !

Can you imagine owning a pair of MM JUGS !

Scotty :D

That bike is freaking cool even if were were to prove disfunctional.
Thanks for all the shameless plugs bro I really would like to get out of the sportbike and into a couple of ATV's we could use to access camp.
The ZX-12 Ninja is a fun bike but that Deuce is sooooo comfortable for the way I ride these days, low and slow. I don't trust myself on that Ninja. It's got power and speed I don't need but WILL use.
