RD2 MINI

chuckitt@earthlink.net

Silent Prop
R. I. P.
Yes, RD stands for research and developement, but in this case it means Ronnie Deschamp. He is responsible for the R+D on the minipro116 and now the RD2 aluminum mini. This mini ran 35 MPH with the 35 briggs.

One fine lookin boat..............have to start saving on a whole new level

I think an ea-81 would fit nicely in there

Chuck that is an absolutely fantastic looking rig , wow I see you also went with the wide blade wood , did you find it pushed better than the carbon fiber , whats the dry weight of the aluminum next to the 116 pro ? wheres the video of each .... :D

Chuck, congratulations!! That is one fantastic lookin little boat! :hello1:

IMO, the time has come for this kind of an airboat. Gas will never be cheaper than it is tonight, and you won't need to mortgage your home
to own one of these.

do you think the 090 is thick enough for the bottom of this hull with no poly for added strength , most mini guys around here build with no less than 1/8 and they still manage to bow the rakes on that when they dont have poly and my go devil is 1/8 and the rake is cupped on it as well , it seems like 090 would be way to thin , i understand it has to be light though , how much more weight would 1/8 bottom actually add , would anybody in here know off the top of their head ?
Not knocking the boat chuck , its beautitful and I am so tempted to make the 12 hour ride to test ride it , but I got to wait to see marks rig first , because hes only 40 minutes away . also chuck Ive heard you mention an a65 setup mini , how much would that motor setup be in comparison to the briggs and how much difference in performance would you notice and what about fuel economy , , or would this motor simply take it out of the mini class altogether and just put it in a class of its own . Maybe we could make a big mini / lil mini class hehe

Hey Snapper, We can build a mini with an 1/8 inch bottom and it will still work. Any
thing we add extra will take away from the overall performance of the boat. These
boats are built for water running and some will run on wet grass. If we say a boat
will run dry, we mean you can dump it on the ground and drive around until you find
some water to put it in. The A65 cont we are going to put on a mini hull has a 100
HP crank so it will be 90 + HP. It want be called a mini. It will be called a bada#!
little boat. I don't Know how much fuel it will use, but it should not be bad. To do what you
want to do with the boat, you have to have more power. The A65 will do it.
Thanks, Chuck

Chuck

Did you know that Briggs is coming out with a 60 hp Motor, that should be the ticket with a reduction on it for running dry ground

sniper where did you hear that , cause I have heard it mentioned before also , but google doesn't turn up anything on it , could you give me a web addy

Paul Dixon got one from Briggs to try out he has been working with some one at Briggs and developing this engine

I am in shock Mrs. Carol didnt mention anything about a Briggs 60HP to me!!! I know where you can get pushrods and cranks and everything else you can imagine to get your 35 up to around 60 but say goodbye to the warranty.

Hey Snapper, I will check on the cost of the 1/8 inch bottom tomorrow. The cost
of the A65 boat will be $12,800.00. A little extra with the thicker bottom.
Ronnie's son Dustin has a Briggs that was 35 HP until the engine shop finished it.
They said it was 59 HP. It ran 40 MPH on the MiniPro 116. The cost of the
modifications was $ 2100.00. So HP can be bought for almost any engine.
Thanks, Chuck

dave, I dont know where you are located but there are a bunch of people that offer performance parts. I would recommend http://www.extremevtwins.com/
They are out of the Houston area and all these guys work on the motors for the Mud Motor market and I think with this shift to smaller engines on airboat I believe it will come into play in this market also. Mosquito started out modding there motor but they seem to have dissappeared but they were headed in the right direction. Like I said there are several other performace sites like Backwaterperformace which is just Mudbuddy's performance site. But if you were versed in the MM world you know know that Mudbuddy is the outsider and the Home of the MM World is right here in my backyard in Louisiana and if you ask around here you get sent to Extreme!!!

Like chuck said, HP can be bought!!! Just how much you wanna spend. Mod the Briggs, buy and A/C or and Auto. It is all equivalent in you spend the money and you get the power. But in your case having an older motor that warranty i about up mod it and see what you can get out of it. I hope you have a adjustable pitch prop b/c after you mod you would probably be able to spin a little more pitch.
