has anybody tied to re-power from a 4.3L V6 to a 350 SBC. Wondering how much cage modification it tool and what do i need to get my geat box to swap easily (Rotator) looking to get more power my old engine is getting old and tired.

A SBC is a direct replacement for a 4.3. No cage modifications needed and the same box will bolt right up. The difference between the 2 is from the engine mounts forward. To make the switch you will add about 5" to what you have upfront now.

If your swapping to a V8 sbc and going "gear drive" the best power for the dollar is probably going to be a 383 crate motor. While not a purpose built engine the price and availability make it attractive to many. A lot of folks have had better than fair results using the Blue Print roller version. Everyone and their cousin knows someone who builds sbc engines so look around, but here is a link of a complete ready to run crate engine so you can see a price.

The thing with these is run good 93 octane fuel, keep the engine 180' degrees and do not put excess timing to them.

Have a neighbor who runs one and has a lot of running time on it.

If you do not have a motor, I would look at an ls motor before I used a sbc. A stock 5.3 and a cam change will get you 375-400hp. Headers and accessories are about the same cost. I have a 5.3 that had 113K on it in the truck and has over 600hrs between to different boats. Both are heavy gulf fishing boats that are usually loaded and run hard.

just my 2 cent

Where are you located? We build custom engines in Venice Fl. We have an in house dyno to test run them after they're built. Check out the FB page Venice Auto Marine. We have roughly 20 engine videos on the dyno. We have a SBC baked, shot-peened and bored. It's ready for a rotating assembly of your choice. 941-484-2474
