When the water level falls on the Kissimmee River, the frogs come out. Just look for the gleam of their eyes.

Cornwell · Gliding across the water in his airboat under a star-filled sky, his headlamp illuminating the lily pads and reeds in front of us, Robert Stossel spotted the eyes of a frog glowing in the light.
He eased the airboat alongside the frog and, in one smooth motion while the boat was still moving, reached out with his frog gig, touched the frog with the gig's sharp hooks, gave the gig a little jab and lifted the frog into the boat.
Just as smoothly, Stossel put the end of the gig over the frog chute at the front of his boat and pulled back on the gig so the frog dropped through the opening and into the mesh bag at the bottom of the chute. Then Stossel immediately started searching for the next frog.
There was no shortage of frogs this night because we were hunting for them in one of the...
