Rear Mounted Lenco Troller

Gbenzx

Well-known member
They have a rear mount cordless unit for Airboats but $2k seems tome a little much.

Is there another option that might work for rear mounting?

Thanx, Gben

mudpup,

We first saw these at Floral City Airboats in Inverness mtd on an Airboat that Mike & them had just finished for someone.
They are duals mtd on their trim tabs on both sides of the transom.

and see how they operate & the dealers that sell them.

All we would need is the single but haven't had time to get by Inverness yet. Don't yet see them on ebay either.

Gben,

I have a floral city airboat with twin lenco trolling motors. If you are going to mount your motor on an airboat you will definitely want twin motors. A single motor (no matter where you mount it) if it gets windy, with all the wind resistance an airboat has, you will basically just go in circles without a lot of control. All of my friends have singles both mounted front and rear and they hate them. Singles are great on our flats boats but not well on the blow boats. With the twins you can operate them just like twin outboards with forward and reverse. They give you complete control over the boat in any weather condition.

Mark,

Not only do I need to welcome you but also Thank You for bringing some needed experience in these new Trollers to the board. :)

You may have the Airboat we looked at & if so I must say WhatABoat!
And not least of course Mike, Wife & the boys work hard at it.

And with the Double Motors I can easily see why it would pay to have that kind of control to avoid the dents around the ramps.

Abt 3 weeks ago a little gusty wind t storm showed up at the landing on Black Creek. Every time he had it lined up a gust would shove the bow around. Everybody else wants the ramp too at a time like this, right?
Now my Son being the good natured helper that he is walks down the ramp in the rain & says, throw me the rope. Oh no, not with a big fancey BassBoat like this. But after abt 4 more times they finally threw him the rope. :(

Anyway we're still looking for the right Airboat in a used 15 or 16 Alum V8 although Chuck, Airboat Pro's has said a couple things abt his V6's with gearbox that I'd like to check on.

Thnx agn, Gben

I bought a set of these on ebay last november. We have not installed them yet. We are in the process of putting new engine and polymer. Here is one trolling tab on ebay. This is the second listing for this same product. Starting bid last time was 800.00 and there were no bids on it. This time they are listed with a starting bid of 700.00. Here is the link (GOOD LUCK)

Thanx Swamp from way up there in Manitoba :)

Did you notice how honest the guy is running the ad?
He even tells that he cut the power cord, one of the four terminals is broken & a bow mount is better than the very setup he's trying to sell :(

No wonder he can't get any bids. New Hampshire I thimk he is & my kinda people. He even tells abt a little surface rust that will come right off with wd40. If we were ready todo this I would bid just because he is the type of person that he is.

But I thimk he missed the whole sales point by omiting first the power of these things & also not telling abt it's cordless ability.

Have you seen one that is a single rear setup? Need one that swivels & I don't thimk these do that? I don't like to fish backwards in any boat which one can't do anyway on an Airboat. So trying to fish forward the front mount is always right where it shouldn't be at the wrong time. Also I like to use a troller when going on the trailer & what happens to the front mount? Bamm one more time :(

Just in case they don't make one like we want I'll lay odds that someone on the board here can fixit! :)

I haven't hired of a single rear mount troller. I am looking foward on having them installed and trying them out. Another feature that they have is they also run in reverse. On the ebay ad he does not have a very good picture on the controls, you actual have two small toggle switches, one for each motor and you can run one in foward and the other in reverse for a sharp turn around. We are going to use these for moose (hence the name swampdonkey) hunting so we can travel in STEALTH mode. We won't have them installed for about another month. But I can let you know how they perform after our hunting trip. Only draw back that I have with these trollers is that they are 24 Volt which mean two extra big batteries that we have to carry. Theres alway some pros and cons, but we're hoping the pros will be worth it.

The life expectancy of those trollers on my boat would be about 1 trip. They are great if you stay in the water away from logs and if you go dry it is level terrain. I don't adhere to that criteria so They won't work for me. I have however often carried a bow mount which I clamped to the side of the hull when fishing and that worked good.

Thanx Guys

Donky,
Don't know much abt electricks but looks like you could run these without having to carry the extra batteries if you had a dual battery primary setup.
A converter box might be needed where one could throw the switch one way or the other. With it's seperate system it would bring on more variables like a generator. But then agn your talking quiet to slip up on the trophies. :) 120-say 140lbs of push at even some of the time is a lot of juice.

Cntry,

Good you said that & the other thing is being in a tight turn around in the little streams we'll be into with them extending out the back like that. Could go with just two small ones on the sides near the rear wired into a single controller if we can figure how todo it. If adjusted right they would fold up close to the sides & be pretty much out of the way.

Now if ya'll smell something burning I'm thimkin agn but one of the reasons for all this is the noise business around the ramps when there is lots of people. This 455 Olds up here with his big wood prop is conservative abt this but still he makes big announcement going & coming around the ramp. :( It is most likely the only Airboat some of the people here have ever seen.
