Reduction Gearbox

Can any tell me about Precision :rebel: Gear , there made not far from me, anyone run one, been running a DD for a awhile and thinking about a gearbox, thanks

I ran one for about 3 years was used when I got it. Had been through 3 differnt friends after being purchased used form Airboat pro's. I had been running a DD Caddy for a few years and had a stock 5.3 sitting in the garage. I couldn't pass it up for what they guy wanted. One step deeper into the addtion lol. Stock 5.3 with a 2:1 and 80" 2 blade R.

Made some noise at idle but worked well. Never has an issue. I took it with me to Vaghen when I him drill a flexplate. He said was over 12 years old gears felt a little sloppy but runable. Said he made the gears differntly and could do an upgrade for me. I believe he does a 2.3 ratio now. I had 2:1 would still be running it if I would not have found a deal on a 2.68 stinger.

If you are buying on used check the softdrive plate spline Most of my noise was due to the slop in the input shaft to softdrive plate spline.

If you gonna run it on a SBC then get the 2.3. If your going to use in on a caddy ratio depends on the build.

Mounting hole pattern on box - Precision is narrower, slightly father away from from mount and higher for from t-Bar, then Ox Box/ ballistic/ stinger or rotator/torque

Chances are that I may be wrong, and/or things may have changed, but I don't believe they will bolt up to a Caddy without an adapter plate. If that's what your looking to do, I would verify that with Vaughn so you don't end up with an unpleasant surprise midway.

I've only been around two of them, and they were both completely grief free. The one guy had been running his through a couple different engines and would do a commercial for them if he had been asked (he literally stated as much). His was a little quieter than the other one and made far less noise than a Rotator of the same vintage.

I always wondered why I didn't see more of them around than I do. In the beginning, they were only available in a two to one and I think most folks were wanting more gear. If they bolted to a Caddy and/or are now available in a 2.3 to 1, I would have NO problem running one.

Just in case you don't have Vaughn's contact info:

Deano I just looked at some notes I had and you are correct it need an adapter plate to work with a caddy. But because of the length of the splined input shaft and the softdrive plate slides on the spline the is no spacer required for flexplate.

I found 3 different companies th t made adapters plate for BOP to Chevy.

Call Vaughn and talk with him.
