removing frog spit question

Ok I have a question for ya'll . I started striping the MANY layers of paint of the deck heck I beat I save 40lb there alone  but along the sides and transom over the years it appears that it was repainted and frog spited several times (never cleaned) , maybe I am just being anal to want to strip it back down to clean metal again but that's what I want.
how can I remove that trashy frog spit!!!!!!!!! :?: :?:

That's gonna be a job And a 1/2.. Before I recoted mine I used a grinder to scuff it up. I thought to myself what a job it would be to remove it. although it should come off aluminum better I would imagine.
Good Luck.

If it was mine I'd sand it just enough to even it up and not worry about getting it all off.
A little build-up just adds a little more protection for the bottom. I wish mine was thicker.

Wear a dust mask .... epoxy dust will stay in your lungs forever.

I'll have to find a small grinder the big ones I have will eat right through the frog spit and metal . what are you using a grinding wheel on a little 4" grinder or a twisted wire wheel?

jrstultz,
I agree it is going to be a job and then some but really didn't intend to put it back on , I have new poly on the bottom and about 6" up the sides that is good enough for me and figure if I can get that stuff off one it will look much better and also may save a pound or two

We used a rigid fiber wheel like you grind steel with. It ate right thru the Frog Spit like nothing. Made a helluva mess though. I think we had a 6 inch flat wheel.

You could eat thru most of it with the grinder, then switch to a sander with 36 grit sandpaper for the rest of it.

Either way you are going to scuff up the metal. I don't think there is any avoiding that. But you'll want it scuffed up for when you re-apply the frog spit. (or whatever you are switching to)

Gold, if you're going to poly then you definitely need to just smooth it up and not remove it entirely.
You need a leyer of protection between an aluminum hull and poly to help prevent corrosion on the bottom, between the two.

gold i just did mine not to long ago and used a 4in with 36 grit and it worked fine just watch how hard you push and your not taking any more than you have to and be sure to wipe it down real good with acetone when your done.

moodfood,
Thanks I see how it goes I have a 7" with those meal wheels. Don't care about the mess it makes it look like I actual did something  Hopefully I will not cuff it to bad I don't want to put anything but paint back on

Olf Art,
I am not removing the poly this is just the stuff above the sides and on the transom

KR23,
