Rotator oil?

I would use the rotator oil. I don’t know if it’s because of their tolerances or how they designed their gearbox box but you should run their oil. I have run the stinger and several other gearboxes on synthetic gear oil (much thinner) in order to make the gearbox more efficient. The higher the viscosity of the oil the more horsepower it takes to operate. I’m pretty confidant for reasons unknown to me that Rotators and especially the older ones require they extremely high viscosity oil.

http://www.texasrefinery.com/ Look these folks up, at one time they provided the oil used in a K-way that came from Classic in 1996. I backed into this information using the lab at work. There is more to the oil than just vis. it has some extreme pressure additives that are upper end so to speak. I also talked to the Texas Refinery sales person for the Florida area and they confirmed what we came up with. At the time it was only available in a five-gallon pail. So I always bought it from Classic, they were reasonable in price. Hope this helps

I got off the phone with classic. I have the older style rotator gear box. They tell me that it only takes a pint of oil. Anyone else have the older style box can confirm this

My box held a little over a pint. My box had sight-glass. The box was easy to over fill because the oil ran so slow. Is your gear box painted, the reason I ask people would coat them with white grease... and there were a lot of failures. I think the grease made them run hot, causing a lot of the failures. The highest temp. I saw was 185 degrees F.

I was just there last weekend and bought rotator gear oil it's only $8.95 a quart and thats what the gear box holds 1 qt was told that it was 250 whight special blend for there rotator and was told to change it about every 30 to 40 hours or when you change your engine oil
