Routine maintenence ???

I just bought a 200 Lycoming, and I was wondering how often should I change the oil? Is there any thing to worry about other than oil, fuel filter, and air filter for preventive maitenence.

Also I know the oil screen is on the front of the motor, do I take the entire housing off or just the big nut on the front off, then what, just spray it out with break parts cleaner?

Thanks in advance.

There is a really really good mod out there for the 0-360s and other a/c engines that adds an oil filter. I think that would be worth your while to have but still change oil at the recommended hours.

Add to the list.....

go over every single nut and bolt on the engine. Actually the entire airboat. To do this at regular intervals pays dividends even if you spot check day to day.

Some folks take a magnet and drag it through the used oil and see what if any steel is in the mix.

Check all the wiring at maintenance time as well. Check the alternator output and any belts and gears that drive things like the starter nose and gear and the flywheel.

Perfect time to check lighta and make sure ya got spares in the kit.

Pump some gas out of the tank into a clear drinking glass and look for water or any other contaminants.

Check plug wear as well.

Look for any weeping oil anywhere on the engine. Catch it early and its easier and cheeper to fix.

99% of it is what some would say are common sense things but you'd be amazed how many folks overlook some things til it causes a breakdown.

Hope these ideas help

Scotty
