Running Lights / Frogin Lights

Another crazy question. What is the best spot light for running at night? I have a Prowler 50 watt from Floral City Airboats. This does well, but as always is there something better for less? Does any one have the 100 watt spot that they advertise. Do you make home made ones? If so can you tell me how and with what. I have used the 3 million candle power hand held but this gets old very fast.

I went to Wal-Mart got a $5.00 hat and a cheep set of fog lights. I took the fog lights apart, put the in side on the bill of the hat with rivits. Put in 100w bulb. Then for power put an outlet on the boat with 88 cent power cord. Plug it in and go. It works great for driven and frogin at night. The only thing is it draws alot from the battery. So be shur that you have a good battery, or two batteries in the boat.

For me this works good I'm happy with this set up.

I took a hard hat and mounted the glass and bulb out of a 150watt kc light and it works great but you get tired of waring it had 1 laying around

For driving lights we use 250w aircraft landing lights in homemade housings made from the adjustable headstraps of a welding helmet. With that much wattage we usually run 10ga. marine romex wire clipped straight to the battery, most people that try to run plug in connectors have them melt. For frogging I have a 50w projector light bulb from an indoor trac light setup in a hose clamp that is popriveted to a hat bill. This is an extremely light setup that lets you run all night without your neck getting tired, and its not bright enough to scare the frogs.

I use the 50w prowler for both froggin and runnin if I need a light for runnin. That is the one on the soft hat right???

I normally use the 50w most the time, The 250w only comes out when the fog has rolled in and you cant see 5ft. in front of the boat.

Yes the Prowler is the soft hat type. It is very light not much heaver than a ball cap. We are ordering the 100 watt today to try it. I have tried the sealed beam type before and it gets very heavy in a short time, stiff neck and a headache.

I buy two(2) 100w aircraft landing lights in housings that mount just like KC's for less than 40.00. Use em on my wheel buggy as well. Very, very bright.

Croc,
The business name is L.V. International The owner is Joaquin. Phone # is 305 477 5772. 8240 nw 70 st. Miami. He is import-export, wholesale. Nice guy to deal with. Give him a call and see if he will sell to y'all being he is wholesale. If not, maybe i can help y'all out with the purchase. The lights come in a flat black housing. Easy to mount on a buggy or airboat. I also have the replacement bulb # but it's cheaper to buy the whole assembly.

That looks home made? Looks like a adjustable head band from a face shield. What type of lamp is it and where did you get it?

The Prowler on that web site is the same one Classic Airboat sells and the same one I have. It is very very light. Thought about just ordering a replacement lamp and making my own.

KJC,
It's an aircraft landing light bulb. ( GE4509)
They can be had at any well stocked NAPA. ($13.00)
Your right about the head gear, it's from a full faceshield, and I made all the brackets, and bulb holder. Wired through a switch on the light.
It's really comfortable, and stays put. don't bother me to wear it all night.
Some folks think that it may be to bright to frog with, but they don't seem to spook on me.

I can build one like that for you if you want.
