I read a post a while back about someone who's Gear reduction units upper bolt backed off , I wish I would have remembered this post on my look over before each run , I just never look up in the reduction unit .Only the bottom outer 2, Never again I'll check them all !!!!! The upper 2 inch bolt backed off and some how managed to miss the belt, fly wheel and starter, radiator.......BUT did some how manage to fall and take the entire outer edge off one blade ,a 3 inch chunk out of the other cut a 3 inch hole in my transom and on its way out managed to go in one side and out the other of my muffler....... :x

Just thought I'd post so it does not happen to anyone else

Alaska,

Sure glad nobody was hurt. There is a reason that pilots do a pre-flight, to look for potential problems/deficiencies. I always walk around my boat before I drop it off the trailer and look at the following: Rudders and steering connections, prop bolts, spark plugs (visual and touch for loosening), under engine for oil and loose items, and of course that the drain plugs are installed. It only takes a couple of minutes!
