Sanctioned airboat races

I just Spoke with a promoter of the airboat races at East Lake Toho everything is on for Saturday’s race. I know Sniper and a few other people asked me for directions. It’s very simple to find from the West coast take Highway 192 and head east to Nacroossee road (CR-15) turn North go 2.5 miles to you will see signs for the races posted on the road. Then you will turn left onto Chisholm Rd. There will be people directing you to parking from there. Obviously if your coming from the East coast head West on 192 and turn North on Narcoossee Rd. Hey Sniper will you still be available to take pictures for me.

waterthunder, i live down south, what city or county is this in??? cant find it on the map i have..just found it, should have looked harder...

thanks, would like to drive up if possible..also what time does it start??

and is viewing only possible by boat?

T REX Just go to yahoo maps just type in Saint cloud fla - when you get there . go east 192 Your will see it ! Iam too late sorry

You can park your car right next to the track. They race on the East lake bank. The flyer that southerairboat put out has the time I believe it starts @ 11:00.

Can One of you please tell me:

1. are these sanctioned races?
2. is there a sanctioning body (like NASCAR) that sanctions races
3. what period of time, prior to a race, do folks practice for a race of this type?
4. do these races require a coast guard permit to be run? Any other type of permit?

The reason I am asking is that there is language in the airboat bill which will allow those participating in a race, or preparing for a race, to be exempt from the muffler and flag requirements.

There is push back from law enforcement regarding the langauge which says "a person preparing for a racing event" is exempt. That's pretty wide open and they want me to write it so that it is not a loophole for anyone who just doesn't want a muffler to say "well, i'm preparing for a race"...

I'd appreciate some help and direction on this as quickly as possible
'thanks

Can One of you please tell me:

1. are these sanctioned races? (Yes and they will be permitted, insured with medics on site and over seen by the authorities).
2. is there a sanctioning body (like NASCAR) that sanctions races. (yes there are 3 or so sanctioning bodies)
3. what period of time, prior to a race, do folks practice for a race of this type? (The day before and day of).
4. do these races require a coast guard permit to be run? Any other type of permit? (Some require county issued permits.)

The reason I am asking is that there is language in the airboat bill which will allow those participating in a race, or preparing for a race, to be exempt from the muffler and flag requirements. (This really isn't an issue because 90% of these airboats never run unless at a race).

There is push back from law enforcement regarding the language which says "a person preparing for a racing event" is exempt. That's pretty wide open and they want me to write it so that it is not a loophole for anyone who just doesn't want a muffler to say "well, i'm preparing for a race"... Make the exemption for the day before and the day of the race. Also remember we only have a maximum of 4 races a year on water.

Hey guy's I have been pushing for this for years. When you go to a circle track race they have a spectators class for none racers who drove their cars to the track. This encourages people to race and helps the sport grow. Because you always see these beginners get the bug and move up a class or two. For to long the so called ride boat class has people that have been racing for years beating up on beginners. We are planning a class that all the entries must be real ride boats there will also be a purse in this class. We are in the preliminary stage of writing rules for this class. So far there will be no step hulls, or composite hulls, no supercharged motors, no N2O, all boats must have polymer, no light weight rigging, no modified engines, boat can not be owned or drove by a known racer and must pass the techs opinion of a ride boat. Folks this class is only for first time racers. Every race I have been to people wouldn't enter because they knew they would be slaughtered by a race boat running in the ride boat class so here is a chance for a true ride boat to compete at the races an have a blast doing it.

Slick bottom boats will have to run a different class then polymer boats. A slick bottom boat has a huge advantage over a polymer boat in the water.

I hope you are able to pull this off. I cant agree more so called "ride boats" that never see the marsh except for for races. I miss not having any races to go and watch. I hope someone can revive this sport, and get away from all the BS from lawsuits and crybabies there has been in the past.

Thunder

I have a national offshore boat race to photograph this week end so I will not be able to make it but keep me posted on any more races and I will do my best to be there.

I couldn't have said it better. I don't know what killed the sport more liability issues or cry babies. I have watched people who have raced for 15 years build a race boat that I never saw on the marsh, run their boat in an entry level class. They won a ton of races and never step up to the next class. We are having a race this year and it will be put on in the best interest of good competition and spectator entertainment. There will also be some venue changes so the fans don't have so long of a wait between the faster classes.
